Multiple (2) Instances of CD Ripper stalls on Encoding but eventually frees up?

    Hardware Configuration:

    Windows 7 64 Bit i7-4790K 4GHz 16 GB Ram
    two ASUS CD/DVD Drives DRW-24B3LT
    DB Poweramp 16.1

When running two instances of DB Poweramp, one for each optical drive, the encoding process hangs (or stalls) at various % on that drive. When adding a new CD to the other optical drive, the stalled encoding eventually frees up and completes the ripping process. Then, the encoding stall moves to the second drive until I add a new CD to the first optical drive. The process continues to switch from drive to drive. The only constant is that the encoding stall moves from instance(drive) to instance(drive). The encoding stall seems to be on random tracks but always moves from instance to instance. I only ever open two instances of DB Poweramp CD Ripper.

Eliminating the encoding pause will greatly increase ripping speed. Using multi-encoder with three encoders: FLAC, MP3 and WMA 10. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Where are you storing the ripped audio? NAS? Hard drive on your computer? Do you have dBpoweramp set up to use multiple cores in the processor. I've seen the same issue after all the cores are in use sometimes, most often I've found a problem with the NAS, first time it had started its daily antivirus scan which slowed it to a crawl. Other background processes on some NAS's can cause them to become sluggish, the built oin processors in many of them re pretty limited. Moved antivirus scan to 4AM. I have also found it necessary on occasion to reboot NAS, router and Ethernet switch, something was off the rails.

Connect the cd drives to different controllers.

Ripped audio is stored on the local SSD, verified and then moved to my server. My local SSD (Drive C) is mirrored. Spoon suggested moving the optical drives to different controllers so I think I'll give that a try. Odd thing is, before I upgraded to 16.1 a few days ago I didn't have this issue.

Finally got around to moving an optical drive to another controller and it worked! No more stalling during the encoding stage. Thanks!

Guess I spoke too soon. No problems yesterday but today...It's back. Same problem even with each optical drive on a different controller. Back to the drawing board. Will mess with settings and such and will keep the board posted.

I'm at wits end with this P.O.S. Completely removed the program, including running the batch file to clear settings and registry settings. Also ran c cleaner and found a few registry entries the batch file missed. Rebooted and reinstalled a fresh copy of 16.1. And I STILL have the freakin' problem. Why have two CD ROM drives to rip if you can't use them. Would like to submit a debug report (if that would help) but the only way to do it is through the forum, no tech support other than that? Someone please help!

I am 100% certain it is not a software issue, it is a hardware issue. One CD drive should not affect the 2nd one in any way (CD Ripper only communicates to one drive at a time).

Well, I had some spare time and did some more experimentation. Preliminary findings: The Multi-Encoder seems to be the culprit. When ripping with two CD Rom drives and using a single encoder, I have not experienced the encoding process stalling. With the multi-encoder ripping FLAC, MP* and WMA the stalling comes right back. Interesting...
