Track is "unsecure" on 3 different copies of CD and general question re best settings

I've been using CD Ripper for over a year now. Now and then I experience a track that is "unsecure," generally with a used CD. I buy (and already own) a lot of used CDs, and this happens maybe 1 out of 30 or 40 CDs, and I assume that is just part of life ripping CDs. But a few weeks ago, when this happened, I really wanted a secure rip of all tracks so I bought copy #2 of the CD (used). The same track was unsecure on CD @2, so I bought a new CD (copy #3), and the same track is unsecure on that CD, too. The track plays OK on my CD player, but I think I'm hearing a few transients on the track in question that sound slightly distorted, and I don't hear that distortion on the other tracks. Maybe this points to a manufacturing defect that affected all 3 CDs, but I thought I'd post to see what others think?

A more general question, is what settings other recommend that strike the best balance of identifying tracks that lack integrity, but not slowing down the rip process too much?

Thanks in advance for any and all comments/suggestions.
