Errors ripping CD

Are you ripping to a locale drive or to a network drive? What happens if you wirte to a locale drive? Can you please post the exact error message you see?

It is likely you are trying to rip to a network location and do not have permission to write there, try to browse to that location and create a file using Windows file explorer.

I have previously written hundreds of CDs to that network location but having upgraded to Windows 11 Professional I can no longer rip a CD to it

.Why would I suddenly not be able to write to the network files on my Western Digital drive ?
I can play files from it and can see the CD contents with no problems

You would have to check with Windows File Explorer that you can browse the network share and you can copy files to it.
