    Hdcd dsp

I am adding the HDCD DSP to my profile. There is a box at the top of the pop-up window for "+6dB Amplification."

I asked AI what to do: Copilot says check the box. Gemini says DO NOT check the box. They each give conflicting reasons why I should do they suggest.

    What should I really do???

Leave off, and use alternative volume normalization such as replaygain ebr128

Sorry, I wanted to clarify what you mean. Is it recommended to add HDCD (with +6 box unchecked) DSP, or is it recommended to not add the HDCD to my DSP list?

      I have ReplayGain DSP added.

I would keep this in mind in ripping HDCD CDs. In my opinion, best to NOT use HDCD DSP to rip (that way you'll get bitperfect rips). Then you can use dbpa CONVERT to convert to new FLAC files using the HDCD DSP to take advantage of any benefit. (that is you'll have two sets of files. The bitperfect from CD files and the HDCD encoded files.) Keep in mind that many, many HDCD CDs don't use PE, the HDCD feature that matters. So decoding to HDCD is a waste. foobar2000 has an HDCD component that can actually tell you with features are used on an HDCD (PE, etc.).

I apologize in advance for this lengthy post and its wordy questions, but after a lot of reading I'm still unsure what the best general approach is for ripping HDCDs, and from what I can tell there is no FAQ or definitive best practices recommended by illustrate. This might be a bit pedantic, but I'm really hoping those of you
