Internal drive recommendations for ripping?>

I have been using EAC then CueRipper for years, but have been curious about dBpoweramp all that time so I finally installed it.

I am frustrated and disappointed so far as dBpoweramp has not been able to verify my drive (a GH24NSD5) after feeding it more than 50 CDs. It appears on both the Accuraterip CD Drive Offsets list and the dBpoweramp CD Drive Accuracy 2024 list, so I was expecting it to be okay. However, I just found a post on this forum which suggests the possibility of the drive being buggy.

I could sidestep this by buying a new drive, but there do not seem to be many options out there. There is one on Amazon branded "JUSTOP" which has model No. GH24NSD6. This does appear in the Accuraterip list, but not the dBpoweramp one, and I am hesitant to go for it after my issue with the similarly numbered GH24NSD5. I would therefore be grateful for recommendations.

I would go for a non LG drive, the GH24NSD5 has 500 submissions of +6, it would configure normally with one known disc. There must be an incompatibility.

Thanks. I just found a used Philips Lite-On DH-16AESH on Ebay for a low price, hopefully that will play nicely. It seems to do well in the accuracy score.

I have a dim memory of the LG drive not working well with CueRipper at one stage, I had to download an old version to get it to work or something like that. I just Googled "GH24NSD5 cueripper issue" to try to remind myself what that was all about, and the AI response at the top was quite revealing:

"The LG GH24NSD5 drive often has issues with CUERipper and other ripping software due to buggy firmware and unreliable C2 error reporting. This commonly results in ripping errors like "Error Reading CD IOCTL Failed," immediate error indications with retries, or the software failing to verify discs with AccurateRip. "

... looks like I could be glad to see the back of it! Hopefully this little thread will save others a headache in due course.
