CD Ripper - ID tagging for multiple artists

    hi everyone !!
    trust all are well

i have some CDs where there are multiple artists, seperated by a ";" i have made the addition for it to replace by "'," in the "tags & filenames" section. unfortunately, the change does not take place & only the 1st artist name is shown after the rip.

    any Assistance is welcome

You would have to click the 'Refresh button' to re-read the metadata after changing that option.

Where is the artist shown? in filename or player?

It's not a question of character replacement, but editing the metadata before or after ripping. I.e. Check the artist tag before ripping and use ";" (semicolon plus space) to delimit each artist from the next one.

The semi-colon is used in all illustrate products (dBpoweramp, PerfectTUNES etc) to let the user know that a tag contains multiple values; it's not stored in the file itself.

Given the semi-colon isn't a literal character there's nothing to replace. If you perform a rip without modifying the Artist tag (so it contains semi-colons) in what screen/app is only the 1st artist name shown?

Simbun, I sort of recall that with at least FLAC files, and a somewhat typical naming string, that includes artist as part of the string, only the first artist name appears in the filename. When the translator in dBpoweramp's string editor hits the first semicolon delimiter in the input artist string it just drops the rest of the artists, or else it actually looks at the tags and not the input string, and since in FLAC each artist of a multi-artist entry is a separate tag, it only reads the first one. I'm pretty sure I noticed this long ago when fixing typos in tags that had also propagated into the filenames.

If the problem is with the filename then it's an easy fix ('[tags]artist,_COMMA_ []'), but I don't think we know that yet do we, 8 posts in? ;-)
