CD Ripping was great, now it's extremely slow

I have a brand new Dell XPS Desktop running Windows 11, and a Mercury Pro external CD/DVD drive, connected with the provided USB 3 cable and connected to an external AC power source. I use it primarily to rip music CDs.

This was working great at the drive's rated speeds of between 16x and 40x. Suddenly, it can't rip CDs any faster than 3.6x or 4x.

Is there any setting in CD Ripper (or in Windows 11) that might be causing this, or a recent update? It was great, and now it's not.

I have gone to Mercury one and they can't think of anything. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drive, different USB ports, many different CDs, etc.

It is the CD drive which self determines the maximum speed a disc can be read.

have you tried a lot of CDs. I have some CDs that rip at 3-4 speed and some that rip at 40. Depends on the CDs.

I have the same issue. Last time I use cd ripper was few months ago. The speed was normal around 20x. Recently, the speed was slowed down to 4x. I bought another external USB dvd writer. The speed is also around 4x.

Could it be the latest version of dbpoweramp causing this?

No, nothing has changed in the speed control in dBpoweramp in 15 years....

I just ripped a bunch of CDs, latest version Windows 10, no issues here, same speed as usual, some CDs rip slower than others as they always have.

sometimes having "use C2 pointers" ticked in the settings will cause things to slow down (however typically to a crawl, less than 1x). Many drives don't support use of C2 pointers well, even when advertised to do so.

Hello there I have been using DB Poweramp and CD Ripper for many years and have the exact same issue - is this an error with DB Poweramp. I am using a Mac OS and iTunes is finding the CDs quicker than DB Poweramp, bit alarmed at this as I don’t want to move to iTunes for ripping CDs.

A further update is that Editing Audio Tags and Inserting Images isn’t working on MAC OS, is anyone else having similar issues
