Request: Rip As One - Improved Interface Needed

I'm intrigued by the Rip As One feature but the current interface is clunky.

It would be handy if the user could select the tracks (with the checkboxes) to Rip As One from the track list and have a button or right-click option available. It seems like the program could determine the start and end times and tracks based on the selected items.

We have a new codec in the next release called 'Joiner' which would do as you want from the main screen.

That’s fantastic news, Spoon! I realize it may not be a widely used feature, but for those of us who do frequently join tracks, a clean way to do that while ripping would be a big help.

In my case, I rip/convert a lot of classical recordings where I prefer to join movements into a single track (since that’s how I always listen to them). I’ve actually found it easier and faster to use Audacity for this, but I sure hope your new Joiner codec makes it even easier.

Thanks as always for your constant development and improvements.

Question? Will Joiner work only when ripping, or is it a DSP that can be run as a "convert" feature? I have any number of albums where the introduction to the track is a separate track from the music, and I'd love to put them together. But trying to locate the actual CDs (out of thousands) to re-rip just isn't worth the effort. Yes I can join them with my audio editing software but that is also more work than it is worth, as my editing software destroys the tags on the edited tracks.

          Have you tried using sox?
          Code:
          sox input1.flac input2.flac output.flac
Works great for joining and splitting.

I've only used it with FLAC but I've never had a problem.

It will be able to be used anywhere, so select 3 files >> convert to >> Joiner (encoder is set on that page), next page allows ordering of files, then convert

Spoon and Simbun, thanks. I'll just have to find the time to use it... Spoon, sounds very useful, thanks. Simbun, Hmm, don't recall hearing of SOX before, I'll have to investigate further.

The only issue with sox is that it's bundled with FLAC 1.3.1 so you may want to process the output with 1.4.3 afterwards if you're that way inclined (like me).

I primarily use it for splitting as I couldn't get ffmpeg to perform the split in a bit perfect manner (so the output would verify with AccurateRip), but it does seem to retain metadata on joining too, unlike ffmpeg, foobar e.t.c.

If you're going to join tracks you might want to create a CUE sheet so the rip/files still verify in CUETools (PerfectTunes doesn't accept CUE sheets).
