    Any Ideas?

    Does anyone have any ideas?
I have a number of ripped albums which are compilations therefore artists are different for a lot of the tracks. So for example blues brother sountrack ministry of sound albums the commitments etc.
I have a new Audi A6 which has its own hard on board. I can therefore copy my albums from my PC onto an SD card and then import into my Audi hard drive.
However when i do so for the complilation albums, rather than placing the album onto the system which when looked at on the cars monitor ( the layout being like an mp3 player it shows the album art cover and when playing shows track details and artwork for the album) it seperates each track therefore showing not one album which you can go into but individual tracks so you have lots off tracks on the album browser.
For a non-compilation album it lists them fine.
I have tried different naming conventions when ripping them on DB but it does the same thing every time.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Cheers Ta

I not think naming would help as it will seperate based on id tags. Try setting an album artist the same for that album.

That controls the filename, it will be using embedded ID tags instead. It sounds as though it cannot use Album Artist, in which case you would have to change the artist to the single album artist. Batch Converter could do this if going Lossless >> mp3 with the ID Tag processing DSP.

            Rule based manipulation:

            IF Album Artist=[anyvalue]
            SET Artist=[album artist]

Dynamic is about the filename, whereas the conversation previously has been about setting the Artist tag to album artist.

Try editing the ID Tags of these albums, set the Album Artist to "Various Artists" for these compilation CDs.

Yeah they are already set to various artists.
I have noticed a difference in the naming of the two cds i am working with.
This is the first one that works looks like this

Your images are showing file names.....just to re-emphasize a point made earlier in the conversation, file naming is NOT determinate here. There is metadata ("tags") embedded within each audio file, no matter how that file happens to be named. It is that embedded data that is used by playback devices.

It sounds like you've dealt with the metadata part of your compilations problem. If setting a common ALBUM ARTIST, as well as setting the COMPILATION flag, do not resolve the issue in your car player, the issue lies with your car player. I'd suggest you first look through its documentation and see if there are any setting options for how to deal with compilations. Most home players have this, but I'm not too optimistic about your car. (In my experience, car players, no matter how fancy or pricey, tend to be pretty crude playback devices.) While it may not have a setting to force the approach you'd prefer, it should at least have a default approach that it always uses.

If your car player completely lacks the ability to recognize compilations through the "traditional" methods of flag or common ALBUM ARTIST, which would be kinda bizarre, you'd have no choice to tag (again....not about changing the file name) the files with only a common ARTIST name.

                            Re: Any Ideas?

Hi there thanks for getting back to me.
I understand the embedded data a device looks at. The only reason i posted those two images was that when we initially spoke on this thread, i used the manipulation as you suggested, and the first image was the one that actually works in the car. What confuses me is when i use the batch converter with what i believe to be the exact same settings, even i with the same disk, the file does not catologue the mp3 correctly in te car nor does it assign the same file naming convention as the one shown in the first image but as shown in the second image. I am wondering if there is something i am not setting correctly or that the manipulation is not executing. How do i know if the manipulation has executed?

                            Many thanks

Quick question: Are these all existing rips that you're trying to prepare for car use, or are you doing new CD rips for this purpose? And if they're all existing rips, is there any audio conversion involved, or just trying to get the tags right (so the car understands them)?
