Can suddenly not back-up to m4b

    Hi,

I need help. I have used CD-ripper a long time to convert my audiobook CDs to m4b to enable listening on mobile devices. It has worked fine. A while ago, I had to upgrade to a faster computer and now I cannot back-up my audio books to m4b anymore. I have followed the instructions (I think) about installing the m4b (Audio Book) folder, downloaded the codecs from Nero and unzipped to the m4b (Audio Book) folder. I can select the m4b format and the ripping starts and finishes. However, every file (with correct name, tags and art) is 0 kb. When I try the dBpoweramp Music converter, it reports Error converting to m4b (Audio Book), Error running CoreConverter. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for any help!

    Check that:

CoreConverter.exe exists where dBpoweramp is installed to, if it does exist then it is likely your security software has blocked it from running.

      Thanks Spoon,

Strange thing is I use the same security software as before. I have added CoreConverter and other dBpoweramp files to trusted in both Firewall and Anti-virus but still no joy.

Core Converter is in C:\Program Files (x86)\Illustrate\dBpoweramp folder.

      Cheers

Spoon, tried that but it still does not work. Turned off both firewall and anti-virus but still got 0 kb files. I wonder if I did something wrong with the codec installation?

You can convert the same files to WAVE for example?

              Yes, Wave works perfectly.

I am really grateful for your help.

Switch on the debug mode (dBpoweramp Configuration >> Music Converter Tab), then try to convert a file t m4a, when error shows close the program and a debug log will show, post the contents here please.

OK, enabled debug and tried to rip one file (track no 2) to m4a. Copy of debug content below.

Create a WAVE or FLAC file, then convert the file to m4b please (with logging enabled) and post the log.

Re: Can suddenly not back-up to m4b

                      Spoon,

I can convert the file to FLAC with no problem. However, when I try to access the file through Music Concerter, it says

E:\ is not accessible. Access is denied.

I cannot access any of my hard drives through Music Converter - only CD-rom. Thus, I can not provide a copy of the debug report.

But from CD-ripper, I can access the hard drives and save FLAC to E. If I choose to convert to m4b, a file is still created but with 0 Kb content.

Strange. I will restart my computer and see if the access denied problem still exists.

This will be the reason, there must be a security setting which is stopping access to drive e, what happens if you copy the files to your music folder on drive C? then try to convert.

                            Try this new m4b encoder:

We will be phasing out the Nero encoder and replacing with this newer FDK version. Includes also a m4b encoder. <now released> Encoder.exe"]dBpoweramp-Codec-m4a FDK (AAC) Encoder[/URL] This install contains both 64 bit install (for dBpoweramp R15 beta 64 bit) and 32 bit install. By default the install will match

Spoon, I still get the same error with the FDK-encoder:

                              Error converting to m4a FDK (AAC), 'C:\Users\Desktop\07 ZZZZZZZ - Track 7.flac' to 'C:\Users\Desktop\07 ZZZZZZZ - Track 7.m4a'

Seems like a persistent problem with the CoreConverter? Time for a re-install?
