    Re: Multi-Encoder + Album Art

I had been looking at the setup guide, which I think may be out of date (?). Changes appear to have been made, certainly under 'ReplayGain'. Does anyone know what the correct settings should be for the four check boxes, given that I am ripping to FLAC and ALAC formats ?
Gary, I will revisit creating an audio CD. I was just wondering, given that AccurateRip was being used by default, whether the additional checks under 'Secure' were really necessary.

4 check boxes in RG. The first two for sure. And I identify album by Album ID Tag. The write itunnorm for itunes you only check if you want the file to contain the "soundcheck" value that itunes/ipods uses instead of RG. If you plan on playing your ALAC files on itunes/ipods you should check this box. It won't hurt anything to have an extra itunnorm field in your tags, even if you don't use it. The last box EBU R128 is a new method for calculating loudness adjustments. foobar2000 now uses this as a standard. I've read that it does a better job, but some complain that it makes things too soft in terms of volume adjustment. Spoon notes that if one uses EBU R128, you should probably use this on all files, not mixing this with regular RG, as your adjustments won't match (and you'll likely notice things not being at about the same volume.). Google EBU R128 for more info.

Now that both dbpa and foobar2000 have the ability to write R128 tags for volume normalization, any pros or cons to using the new R128? Am I correct in assuming that if a player uses ReplayGain tags, it will also use R128 automatically (these are the same tags????).

only 80-90% of my CDs are found by AccurateRip. So I need the other settings when dbpa automatically goes through the various steps when it doesn't find a match in accuraterip. If your CD happens to be in AccurateRip database, it will skip the other steps anyhow.

        I think I am almost there !!!
A few more questions. Given that I am simultaneously ripping to both FLAC and ALAC :
        1) RG settings - I will check the iTunes setting for ALAC. Can I also check that for FLAC (eg for future proofing) ?
        2) RG settings - I will check EBU R128 for both. Is the number -23 for LUFS Target Volume to be left as is ?
        3) Having checked, my drive does support C2 pointers so this will be checked. I am assuming that because I am using an internal CD drive, I leave the 8KB Transfers (C2 pointers over USB/Firewire) unchecked ?
        4) Given that I am about to do a few hundred CDs on mass, I wish to eject after rip (save one small step which saves time in the general scheme of things). Is this ok (not checked in the setup guide) ?
Many thanks again for your assistance.

You could do in the idea that one day iTunes might read flac files...

          > Is the number -23 for LUFS Target Volume to be left as is ?

          Yes

          > I leave the 8KB Transfers (C2 pointers over USB/Firewire) unchecked ?

          Yes

          >I wish to eject after rip

If you require this it is ok.
