    ALAC encoding: iTunes vs dbpoweramp

While I've seen many conversations on the web regarding the the difference between ripping ALAC via iTunes and DBPowerAmp has a fair amount to do with the secure ripping features in DB that iTunes lacks, I wanted to get a feel for the actual encoding of ALAC itself, and whether there would be differences in the results given the reverse engineering of non-Apple ALAC encoders? Is there likely to ever be any type of compatibility issues with iTunes if a non-iTunes encoder is used assuming I mainly use iTunes for organizing and playing my music?

    Thank you!

At worst if there is you could convert ALAC to AIFF and let iTunes create the ALAC, currently there are no issues which stop the decoding.

In the suggestion above, would are you recommending that DBPowerAmp conversion tool be used to make the initial conversion from ALAC to AIFF, and then use iTunes to convert it back to ALAC?

It sounds like there are no issues today, however I gather this could change any time?

      Thanks.

dBpoweramp can decode ALAC files created by dBpoweramp, this is true today and will be for the foreseeable future (it is our code which encodes and decodes, I am not sure how it can break over time).
