    Ripping and C2 error detection

    Hi,

Just installing R14 and going through setup guide. I thoght I would check my drive for C2 error support. It's a Plextor PX-L890SA.

I followed instructions, inserted an unwanted CD I had previously sand papered, after a minute it came back saying CD was either not scratched or drive didnt support C2 error detection.

I was adding this post to check I have it connected correctly etc etc when I clicked on the 'technical' for the drive in CD ripper options. This states the drive does support C2 errors.

I was suret he CD was scratched so tried playing in my audiophile quality cd player and it doesnt go anyway, so definatley a scratched CD.

Can anyone help, I needd to know C2 error correction is working before I continue to rip my collection.

If it helps, Plextor technical support told me before buying that it did support C2 errors. Also drive is connected to a laptop via eSATA cable (latop has eSATA/SUB combo port) and am ripping to a networked WHS box.

Sorry for the long winded post but any help appreciated.

    Thanks Bob

Draw a blank marker line on it as detailed here:

The drive might report it supports c2 when it does not (on the technical page).

Thanks, after posting I tried the 'black marker technique' and got same results. However just tried it again and now saying it is supported .

I just hope I am not doing anything wrong.

On the same subject where is the 'configure accuraterip' tab as mentioned towards the end of the setup guide ?

        Thanks
        Bob

The configure accuraterip page automatically displays if the drive has not previously been configured.

OK this is what I tried.

I ripped a CD on the accuraterip list thinking it would allow me to configure it. After some reading up it was probably because the drive is not the accuraterip list.

So thought I would rip 3 cd's on the list to get the offset. Still no option to configure. However rip status for last rip is showing secure (even though it is on the accuraterip list) and for previous cd's showing as accurate with a number in brackets.

Am I correct in thinking that as the results show either accurate or secure, the offset has already been found and applied ? If not do I need to keep riping cd's from the list until I have 3 matching pressings ?

            Thanks

If the offset has not been found (ie you have never seen that page), then potentially something is blocking access to the internet.

Even if I am managing to get metadata ?

Could the page have popped up and disapeared once the offset was found or would I have had to enter data, check a tick box or something then close it ?

Is there any way of telling if offset has been set, would I still get an accurate rip result ?

i don't recall that I had to check a tick box or anything, so you might have missed it. I could be wrong, but if you are getting rips and they are showing as matching the accuraterip database (with some number in brackets), then I think it has your offset. I don't think you can get the accuraterip match if your drive is not setup.

                    Run this:

...also how to do a full reset of dBpoweramp? (if dBpoweramp crashes for some reason) Where does dBpoweramp save its files / settings? It is installed to c:\Program Files\Illustrate\dBpoweramp or c:\Program Files (x86)\Illustrate\dBpoweramp The 64 bit version of dBpoweramp is installed to: c:\Program Files\dBpoweramp It

Then reinstall and try using on the default settings, AccurateRip should popup offering to find the offset.

Thanks, will give it a try tonight.

If I have to use 3 dc's from the list to set the offset, do they all need actually ripping for accuaterip to recognise them or will just inserting them into my drive be enough ? Whe I insert a disc the album art is downloaded before any riping takes place. Sorry if it's a daft question.

Just inserting, the list does not need following these days as most discs are in AR.

SUCCESS ! I did what you recomended and got the configure box. Now I can start ripping proper.

                          Thanks everyone.
