    Confused about Album Art

First post, I have been reading but can't seem to sort this in my head.
I am starting to build a FLAC library, have dbpoweramp set up by the Spoon guides I have . Everything seems to work, but I have no confidence in the album art I am storing.

Is it better to save it embedded, or in a jpg file? I am not using a player yet so don't know the advantages of either method.

I have been using my scanner to add images from the front of the CD at 800x800. When I go back and try to find the image, I only see the one image that is stored in the album folder. I have read that it is embedded in the Flac file, so I suppose I cannot see it until I use a usual player?

Lets say I insert a CD, the accurate info comes up, then meta populates and sometimes gives me a picture. It might be a 80x80 or some small size that has poor resolution. I click on the - key to remove it, and then add with the + key "add from scanner" . It seems to save it OK, but if I spot check back I seem to find the small image again when I load the CD.

Is the meta small image going to come up each time? Or does it overide the big image I saved? Does it save the big image data to each track on the album?

I will stop there for now. Having a ball, but afraid I am going to have to backtrack again to confirm these are storing.

    Thanks for any help.

    Re: Confused about Album Art

Maybe I should rephrase what I am doing.....I might have been to vague about what is happening.

I am trying to make sure I have a decent workflow to start ripping a bunch of CD's into dbpwr ref. I hate to go back and rerip them, like some I already have.

If I am adding album art from my scanner, do I need to add it at first with the cd in the drive and then rip to build the FLAC files? I was adding it at first after or during the rip, and I have a feeling it is not coded in if I do it that way.

I have not started any conversions to Itunes or my portable player, just trying to work on this FLAC master copy stuff first.

    Thanks for any help.

Yes before ripping. For maximum compatibility I embed also write the folder.jpg

        OK,
Thanks for the response. I can now continue to rip with a little more confidence. I was just adding art as a rip was finished so I was goofing myself without knowing it.

        Best Regards

I've also just starting ripping FLAC. I was under the impression that once I inserted a CD, the album art would appear.

I inserted Larry Carlton's, Alone/But Never Alone and I got no cover. Am I suppose to scan my own cover?

If I have to scan, what file format should it be, size and which folder should I put the album art into?

            Re: Confused about Album Art

Not every CD has album art, try a few, if none have album art then there is an issue with the setup. If you install R14 from the beta section of this forum there is a new Choose Art button which searches the internet for missing art in CD ripper.

              decibel20,

Just as an FYI, you wouldn't need to re-rip something just to add the cover art. Simply use a metadata editing tool on the ripped FLAC files (the free MP3Tag program is what I use and recommend).

              soulwalker,

If a cover isn't in the metadata libraries used by dbpoweramp, try searching Amazon.com or images.google.com. You can usually find usable cover art there without having to go through the hassle of scanning it yourself.
