So I made some modifications to the settings in dBpoweramp 13.3, choosing to use Ultra Secure Mode, and experimented with the Maximum Re-Reads setting. First, I took it from the default to 50, and that didn't work. Finally, I jacked it up to 100, and I ended up, finally, getting an "Accurate (confidence 3) result

NOTE: The test and read CRC's didn't match up

    1 Tracks Ripped Accurately
At this point, I'm wondering what the Maximum Re-Reads setting should really be. Especially since the literature on dBpoweramp's website says the the maximum setting should be, at most, set at 50 for optical drives that have no C2. Doesn't anything above 50 increase the chance of errors getting through?

BTW: The CD in question is pristine, and has never had any problems in EAC at all.

Re: dBpoweramp says Track 2 isn't accurate, but EAC does (HUH???)

Try re-ripping a couple of times with EAC and see if it continues to get the same result. Clearly you have a good test disc/track, as it is recoverable, but not easily so.

Its hard to know from your EAC log how long it took to rip that track.

Does your drive support c2 pointers? on track 2 there was a consistent error which fooled the ripper.

Ripped the track 3 times, and got positive results every single time.

Total rip time for track: About 2:30

No, my drive doesn't support c2.

BTW: In EAC, I can see that there clearly error correction going on at the end of the track, and dBpoweramp, for some reason, isn't correctly seeing it & correcting it. Weird.

Noticing that the same problem is popping up on other CD's as well. I'm starting to wonder if this program will only give the correct results if I get an optical drive with C2 capability...which I wouldn't like. Especially since EAC seems to correctly reads the tracks every single time. Would love to have somebody help with trying to deal with this problem. But I guess I've been abandoned :-(

It does (it was re-ripping 52 frames), it is just the drive is giving out a consistent error some where and without c2 pointers, or many ultra passes these are difficult to detect. AccurateRip can be used in this instance.

At least in principle you are right: > 50 increases the chances of getting 10 identical, right or wrong. I think EAC insists on getting half correct?

It is not uncommon to have some issues even wth CDs in pristine condition. Manufactoring glitches ...
