    Meta-data not working

I have today downloaded and paid for dbpoweramp reference after a few days trial. The reason I downloaded and paid before the expiry of the trial period was that the meta-data stopped working. It still does not work.
I searched this forum and attempted to activate the AMG licence as described and also downloaded the activation file. In each attempt at registering, I entered my licence No. as requested, clicked on 'activate' and each attempt produced the same fail message: "Unable to connect to dBpoweramp.com, please check internet connection."
In each attempt I had a strong broadband internet connection.
    Assistance would be appreciated.

There have been many instances where security software, or even the router can block access for the program (even one instance where parental controls were blocking), so please check what is running on your system.

Still no luck. Do not have any parental control software. Disabled firewall and antivirus programme.
Puzzle is that it was working fine for the 1st 10 or so CDs and then just stopped working.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
      Cheers

        Re: Meta-data not working

The activation program does not read meta data, rather connects to reg.dbpoweramp.com to activate the meta data.

so how does that help me? With respect, that explains nothing.

What firewall/antivirus program are you using? We have seen problems with certain ones before.

Thanks for the post. I am using Bitdefender antivirus and Sunbelt Kerio firewall.
Again the strange thing is that it was working fine at first with these programmes both activated. This evening I uninstalled and re-installed. Still unable to identify CDs.

Can you ping reg.dbpoweramp.com? Can you tracert it? If you put it into your web-browser, do you get a blank white page?

Also rather than disable the programs mentioned, exit them fully. Also check if your router has a firewall, add reg.dbpoweramp.com to its safe list, and to the safe list of all your security programs.

                    Re: Meta-data not working

I really appreciate your efforts, guys.
                    Have tried your suggestions:

1.Tried exiting rather than disabling firewall and AV. Still no luck.
                    2. Modem does not have a firewall.
                    3. Not sure how to 'ping' the web address but entered into my browser and confirm that I got a blank white screen.
                    4. Earlier today I downloaded 2 other FLAC cd ripper programmes to try. Both read all cd's I loaded without problem - but neither seem as good as dbpoweramp to use!
                    5. The mystery deepens.

                    Cheers

In your AV software & firewall add reg.dbpoweramp.com to a 'whitelist', or do not examine data list.

                        Re: Meta-data not working

There does not appear to be a facility within Bitdefender to block or allow web pages. I have, however, both turned off and disabled the programme to try and get metadata to work - without success. I can only assume that this is not the problem.
                        Cheers

                          Re: Meta-data not working

The problem does not lie with dBpoweramp retrieving meta data, such as in CD Ripper, but in the activation of the meta data, so that CD Ripper is able to retrieve it. There is something on your system which is blocking access. As another note, does your system connect through a proxy server to the internet?

                              Thanks Porcus.
                              The result of my ping: Packets sent: = 4 received: = 4 , Lost = 0

I think that means that I am communicating with the dbpoweramp website O.K.

                              Thanks Spoon,
but why is something in my system blocking the retrieval of the metadata in dbpoweramp when it doesn't block retrieval for any other CD software? To me that puts the fault at the dbpoweramp end. But glad to be proved wrong if the thing can be fixed.
