    R13 and AMG

    G'day,
I've so far had no luck in retrieving album information from AMG. The other services work fine but I wanted the extra detail that AMG would provide. I am not using Kaspersky I'm using Norton Internet Security. I turned Norton off as well as PeerGuardian and still have no luck. I've captured the transfer of information through port 80 and everything network wise is working well.

For example here's one of the frames that was received:

    Code:
Frame 6 (1490 bytes on wire, 1490 bytes captured)
    ~
Transmission Control Protocol, Src Port: http (80), Dst Port: 50664 (50664), Seq: 1, Ack: 498, Len: 1436
    Hypertext Transfer Protocol

I guess something is going wrong getting the information that was received into dbpoweramp? Any other program that might interfere with the process?

    Re: R13 and AMG

Does dMC pull info from the other providers such as GD3?

Try disabling the Norton services and rebooting so it is not running at all and then see if it works. Just disabling it probably isn't enough.

      Re: R13 and AMG

Thanks for the reply. I'll give that a go.

Using PerfectMeta it will source information from GD3, Musicbrainz and freedb properly. It won't display allmediaguide information with either PerfectMeta or selectively. I had originally thought the problem lay in my ISP utilising a proxy at their end but as I found out with WireShark the information is being retrieved correctly.

        Re: R13 and AMG

Well unfortunately it's not as easy as that ;(.

Disabled Norton starting up through sysconfig and gave it another go. Still fails to display information.

Edit: Just adding that I have previously had success with an earlier trial version of dbpoweramp on an XP machine. Wonder if it's some sort of Vista issue, although I do have UAC disabled.

          Re: R13 and AMG

Nothing to do with vista (we use it ourselves).

AMG does not like having its datastream altered, Kasparsky was doing just that and AMG was refusing to read the respose (the local libraries we use).

Did the XP machine have Norton installed?

              Re: R13 and AMG

Just tried accessing AMG data at university and it works so it's my friggin ISP that's probably to blame. This is with everything running including Norton Internet Security. Everything goes through a proxy at their end and I think that it must change the data as it passes through

Any work arounds that anyone knows? It's not my software it's something to do with my ISP/network. Perhaps there is a way to bypass? May it be some setting on the ADSL or wireless side of my modem that's mucking around with the data?

R13 had a fix to make Kasparsky work, are you using R13?

                  Re: R13 and AMG

                  Yeah I bought R13 yesterday .

I suppose it's good that I know it's not a software issue. Pity I might be with a dud ISP that doesn't let me use AMG through dbpoweramp though :P.

Edit: Oh and to make it a bit clearer, when I tried it at university I used the same computer (laptop).

Grr.. tested with another modem on the same connection and I get the same result. Stuck with the bastards for 18 months too or else I have to pay up to a maximum of $350 to end it. Bah.

Well at least you know now that Norton Internet Security 2008 works fine .

                          Re: R13 and AMG

I've tried putting a few different proxies in the settings but it still fails. The transparent proxy at my ISP's end must be used as well and still screw up the data. They only filter port 80 however so if AMG allowed different ports it would solve my problem.

There's multiple services that I have found out are affected by their proxy through their forum :p. Predominately when someone can't access a website they seem to be asking the users themselves to contact that site administrator and ask them to resolve the problem. Most problems are due to people sharing a common IP through the proxy and the website seeing this (rather than each user's connection IP). Some sites like rapidshare monitor download from that IP so the limit for those sites is reached incredibly quickly.

Other web services like whois seem to be affected as well as AMG. I'm thinking AMG screws up because of the large amount of details that they hold and when these details are passed when modified and in an unexpected sequence it throws a fit. GD3, CDDB and Musicbrainz send a smaller amount of information in comparison.

I've asked them to remove AMG's IP from those that pass through the proxy but I don't know what my chances are. They haven't made exceptions for other people before. I've gotten the impression that their business model consists of just locking new customers into contract and supplying a substandard experience. Their terms and conditions state that they reserve the right to use a proxies so I also don't know if they'd accept my termination of contract due to these issues.

I suppose I could try with the governing body of ISP matters where I live.

                            Re: R13 and AMG

I had the same problem as the OP, and joined here for he purpose of solving it. It's all fixed, and I can now use AMG.

The problem is proxy servers. Specifically, proxy servers that alter headers. My proxy is the Squid Proxy Cache, which I use to cache internet pages. Proxies are also used to anonymize internet access, and I think some security programs use them (probably Kapersky and Norton from looking around).

The solution is to whitelist AMG's servers in the proxy software, which tells the proxy to just pass that data through, without caching it or altering it. This must be done on their range of IP address, which, in Squid-ready subnet notation, are:

                            166.90.203.0/24
                            64.92.237.0/24

                            Or, in human-readable form:

                            166.90.203.1 thru 166.90.203.255
                            64.92.237.1 thru 64.92.237.255

Yes, I'm sure that entire IP range from 1-255 isn't owned by AMG, but I didn't feel like searching and pecking each one, so I just unblocked the whole range. This got it working for me!

My proxy server, Squid, in combination with the Dansguardian content filter, is one of the proxies of choice for internet censoring by oppressive governments. I saw on Google that a lot of Australians were having the same problems as me. If the man is watching you, sorry, you probably can't get this to work unless there is a way to get that range of IP addresses unblocked. If you're like me, and run a proxy at home for internet privacy, this is the solution.

                            Hope that was helpful!
