    Transcoding problem

    Hi,
I'm trying out Asset UPnP, having got frustrated with all the other media servers that seem to treat audio as an afterthought

Server is on a Mac mini, running OSX 10.10.5.

My library is nearly all in ALAC format, and one device on the network, a Roberts Stream 83i, doesn't talk ALAC. With transcode settings on default, I get a decode error on the 83i. I don't quite understand this because, if I've read the manual correctly, the server should automatically offer FLAC, LPCM and WAV, all of which are supported by the 83i.

If I alter transcode settings to ".m4a as lpcm", the 83i is happy, but the other network device (iPhone -> Airport Express -> hifi) is silent. (I'd tell you more about that if I could find the log output!).

Am I missing something? And is there a way to specify transcode settings for a particular device? (I'm thinking of the way Plex uses device profiles for this.)

    thanks,
    tjh

    Re: Transcoding problem

You can edit Assets Override Values.

    Launch (in Windows):
Asset UPnP Configuration >> Advanced Settings >> Edit >> Settings Override (Control Point Specific)
(so this may be slightly different for the Mac OS version of Asset)

and look for the Roberts Stream 83i in the Known Control Point on the right hand window e.g. my OPPOD BDP-83SE appears as OPPO PLAYER.

Then on the left hand window add:
    =MyRobertsStream83iControlPointName
    [ForceToLPCM]
    .m4a

where MyRobertsStream83iControlPointName is the Control Point name for your Roberts Stream 83i.

Finally, reset the ".m4a as lpcm" to ".m4a as is".

Now, .m4a is served as .m4a for all control points, except for the Roberts Stream 83i, where .m4a is served as LPCM.

      Re: Transcoding problem

Many thanks for the fast and clear reply - and for not pointing out that if I'd read the whole manual I'd have seen this

Actually it only worked after I restarted the server, which doesn't seem to be mentioned in the manual. Or maybe that's just common sense...

      thanks again
