    AssetUPnP forcing everything to WAV

I have a very serious problem where Asset is refusing to stream mp3s to my device.

I currently have both MP3 and MPEG set to "as is SINGLE" in the configuration; as I've read that will force the server to offer it in only that format. The problem is, when I select an mp3 file; Asset is still streaming WAV. I verified this by looking at the debug output and saw where it was sending transcoded WAVE every single time. To add to this slight bit of confusion; the player on my mobile device isn't reporting WAV, but the original format (which I assume Asset sends as part of headers or tags or something). This happens when anything except [ForceToMP3] is used. I haven't looked to see if it's doing the same thing with every format; but I got as far as noticing it was transcoding all my lossy to WAV. Even with the format set "as-is SINGLE" in configuration, all my OGG, m4a, and MP3 files get forced to wav.

My goal is to be able to have two control point over-rides for my device since the app I'm using will allow you to change part of the client ID; but the only one that works is my "low-bandwidth" option that uses [ForceToMP3] on everything.

The behavior seems to be fine on FLAC files...and I can't imagine this thing not playing mp3 since it supports it with ForceToMP3. IS there something screwed up with my configuration and maybe I should uninstall...make sure I wipe all the previous data from Asset..and start over? Or do I need to contact the person who wrote this thing and figure out what's going on. I'm a little confused about this "as-is" thing apparently not being just "as-is" but transcoding to WAV if the device doesn't support the format.

I'm really confused...this is not how this behaved three years ago when I tried to do uPnP on android. I'd try a different client; but they won't function without wifi and I often access the server through a VPN over WAN.

I don't want to force MP3 as MP3 because that will transcode; and part of the reason I'm doing this is so I don't have to transcode things like mp3 back to mp3.

If the player is reporting it as MP3, then I would think it is mo3, as there are no headers in wave or tags.

I realize that; but I assume that there's some information about the media pushed between the server and the client about the media file before the file is streamed.

I contacted the author about the problem with the program...here is what he had to say:

"I'm aware of this bug - I think it displays the first format, if several
formats are available from a (transcoding) server.

Unfortunately it would take a bit more than just changing a few lines in
order to fix it - and currently I don't have the time to do the
      necessary redesign.

Concerning transcoded files: UPnP tries to play the original format, if
it is able to play it and if the server sets the corresponding DLNA flag
for 'original', otherwise it plays the stream with the highest bit
      rate."

So it seems like what Asset is doing is offering the original format first; which is fine. However, is it not setting the DLNA flag for "original"? This would explain why the program, when using as-is; wants to stream nothing but wav since it's pulling the highest bitrate.

What this DOESN'T answer is why I continue to get WAV when the formats are set "as is SINGLE". I haven't made a control override point to force single on those formats; but I would assume doing it in the config itself would "Default" so that control points not listed in override would be getting as-is Single.

I can live with the bug in the client...I can just set lossy formats to As-Is Single and not worry about it. But that doesn't appear to be working. I don't know if I need to somehow uninstall or completely wipe the config so the program installs 100% clean...or if there's some other issue.

What is the player/client? Which version of Asset UPnP are you using? Which platform/OS is Asset UPnP installed?

Client is UPnPlay for Android. Asset is Release 5.1 on Windows 7.

I figured out the problem...I'm just an idiot with control point configuration, not to mention a good reboot of Windows may have helped. After I rebooted, defaulted control point overrides, and set the lossy formats I wanted to As-Is Single; Asset was happily pumping untouched .mp3, .ogg, and .mp4/m4a files to UPnPlay with no problem.

I re-wrote my control point over-rides and things are working exactly how I want them to; change my client name to it's default; supported lossy and FLAC are as-is; with everything else wav; append "LOSSY" and I get MP3 for FLAC and non-supported files; and "MP3" just forces everything to mp3.

No more client taking WAV all the time and me wondering why even on 3G cellular I'm having issues streaming what's supposed to be 128k mp3.
