Here are the Asset screens. Again, not sure what's going on, if anything
Also, to play the music on the external drive attached to the mac, I just click on the track inside the folfer once and it play on the computer
If i click on it twice, it's opens up the album in foobar (which I also installed)
On the WiiM player, Asset shows up, (picture here - black background) but nothing in it

On the media folders page, click Add Folder and browse to the location of your music and click add.

Tried that and it doesn't have the external drive anywhere in the choices. So I can't get to it and click add.

If you open Finder, you should be able to locate and browse the external drive.

Correct. No issue with that. What I can't seem to grasp is how do I get Asset to connect to/scan the music files on that external drive? So then it can load/play on the WiiM. Within Asset, there does not appear to be a way, although I'm sure there is and I just don't know how.

Simbun, It appears so from the Foobar for mac changelog:
              2.6.5 released on 2024-09-19
              • Whole lot of cosmetic fixes, monospaced digit font use, etc backported from latest codebase.
              • Made accept dropping folders to dock.
              • Fixed issues with * and ? characters in filenames.
              • UPnP output preferences fixed edited overrides text not always being saved.
              • Prevented all MP4 tag fields prefixed with replaygain_ from being treated as technical information, only actual ReplayGain fields are now such.
              • Fixed webm audio renamed to .opus being very slow to open.
              • Fixed FLAC files with exotic bit depths incorrectly failing audio MD5 verification.
              • 24-bit rounding issues fixed, performance improved.

And the latest beta version supports both a UPNP player and server according to the change log. I think it has been in beta for a while so probably is pretty stable.

But as I said, I'm not a MAC person so suggestions from the MAC world for simple DLNA player/renderers that he could use to make sure Asset is working correctly arre welcome.

Please go to folders, click on the top add folder button and do a screenshot, The list of possible folders may be fairly long so you may have to scroll for multiple screenshots

Built-in UPnP media renderer, both client (play to another device) and server (be controlled by another device).
                  • Other foobar2000 instances on your local network, with UPnP remote control feature active, will be listed as output devices.
                  • foobar2000-to-foobar2000 playback shows tags with album covers on the other end, using Ogg FLAC as stream container.
There has been some confusion on the Windows side caused by the wording, but the change is it can now act as a UPnP renderer (music sent to it by other UPnP control points e.g. BubbleUPnP/Symfonium/mconnect).

foobar has been able to play to UPnP renderers for some time now, but it's not possible to browse UPnP Servers.

I did suggest Upplay, but given the WiiM Home App can see Asset there's no local testing needed.

Hi Sinbun, Just to clarify, Foobar for Windows has been able to browse UPnP servers for a long time, I use it regularly, with a plug-in. Given the problems sculen has been having, I thought it would be worthwhile for him to be able to play from DLNA/UPnP on the same machine he is using as a (possibly temporary) server, and is using to rip the CDs. But reading the Upplay web, it appears to only be a control point, not a player??

It took a while, but somehow I was able to locate the folder where the external drive was. Now what?

                        I think we've come full circle :-)

I know there's a deprecated plugin on Windows for the 32 bit version of foobar that allows it to read from DLNA servers, but that won't be compatible with the mac version.

Yes Upplay is a UPnP Control Point; it reads from UPnP Servers (AssetUPnP) and plays to UPnP Renderers (Cambridge Audio/WiiM).

If sculen wanted a player that can play to UPnP speakers then foobar isn't a bad choice, but I fear it may confuse things as there are now two systems indexing the music.

Hopefully when it's finished Scanning Library your content will be available in the WiiM Home app/StreamMagic.

Correct, wait for it to finish scanning the library (reload that page occasionally to see how it gets on), then you are ready to serve music to a network player.

Thanks!! Music is now available and playing. Great!! Question. Noticed that I ripped one CD in the wrong genre. If I go back and re-rip in the right genre, do I need to rescan? Or will it automatically pick up the new rip and ignore the old one?

Also, how do you know when it's completed scanning? It still says "Scanning Library"
