    Getting started on Mac

Downloaded Asset UPnP, I think, but stuck getting started. All I have is a window that is mostly frozen - picture here. went to the Help and gogled "getting started" but all it says is double click on the icon. I do that and nothing happens. Maybe it's not actually installed. Sorry, but I'm not good with stuff like this

It is installed and it is running, if you look on the Status page it should list a number of tracks and albums Asset has scanned. All you need then is a player and control point.

Under Status is says "Library Contains "24 Tracks, 1 Album". No idea where this is coming from. I Restarted, Rescanned, & Cleared & Rescanned, Not sure what to do next. Music files are on an external hard drive connected to my mac. So I think the Configuration data needs to be changed, But it doesn't allow for that. Any help much appreciated.

Click on the tab that says "Folders". Add the directory/folder name for the external hard drive. Remove the "music" or whatever folder(s) that you aren't using (presumably the ones on the mac's built in drive).

You'd find it worthwhile to read the contents of the "help" tab. Look at the "configuration" tab contents to get some idea of how flexible the program is, but best not to change anything until you have a better idea how it works and how you will use it.

You should also install a DLNA player (including a renderer) on your mac to use as a troubleshooting tool, as Asset is just a library generator and DLNA server, with no way to play anything by itself. It is like the old fashion card catalog in the library. It will tell you what book to read and where the book is, but not actually get it or read it to you. My initial suggestion is the Mac version of Foobar2000 but someone who does music on a mac using DLNA may have a better choice. Asset will work with that program to select and play what you want to hear.

Been trying all that and can't get anything to work. Must be me
Name of the External Hard Drive where the music folders are is "WD Elements 10TB". How do I get Asset to read it?

It now says Scanning library. But I have no idea what it's scanning

What does the "folders" tab display? That is what it is scanning. Look at what your mac "finder" calls that WD drive. I'm not familiar with the mac, but do you have to mount the drive? You had to give it a name? Presumably you did that to tell dBpoweramp where to store the ripped files. Click on folders, add folder, look at the choices. If it is not there, you might have to go up one level. If still stuck, then take a screenshot of the folders tab with the add folder selection and its choices and post it here.

Also, once you get asset scanning the correct place, you have to walk before you can run. Before trying to get one of those external players to run,, make sure you can play the music selected by asset right on the Mac, The player you install on the mac will be a troubleshooting tool. Once it works there, then you can get it to play on your external player.

Without having entered your external drive into the Folders tab, it is probably using whatever default Asset comes with out-of-the-box, I'd be willing to bet it is the "Music" folder on the Mac hard drive.

And with a DLNA player on the Mac, you'd be able to run it and see exactly what Asset had scanned (indexed) into it's library.

Are you sure that foobar on the mac can access DLNA servers?

I know there's a deprecated plugin on Windows for the 32 bit version of foobar that allows it to read from DLNA servers, but that won't be compatible with the mac version.

I'm not on a mac but it looks like Upplay is compatible.

I have no idea about foobar on Mac and DLNA. I use windows and dont use DLNA in any case.
