    Asset and Crossover Behavior

I've noticed when using Crossover and Asset, when making changes to the music folder locations it just sits and does nothing. I'm a retailer of the Linn DS products. We also write a blog about hifi gear and computer music. http://www.pearlaudiovideo.com/blog I'm preparing a blog about the Linn DS setup and how to get the best and most consistent results with a step by step outline when using the OSX platform. I'm most interested in using Asset as the media server due to the support and updates that you, Spoon Da Man offer. But in my research I'm finding inconsistencies in its operation. I've installed it based on the instruction provided exactly. And yes, "Service" is always selected. For example, when I make a change under "Advanced Settings>>Edit" to the folder location of music then click "Ok" in the "Advanced Settings" dialog, nothing seems to happen. One would think that under "Status" we would see the tracks and albums count change. I click "Reset Asset" and the "Status" indicator displays "Not Running". So I wait, and I wait and nothing happens. So I click it again but nothing happens. The next thing I try is click "Ok" and the "Asset UPnP Configuration" dialog closes. I then quit Crossover and restart. Then I use Crossover's drop down menu and select "Programs>>Asset UPnP>>Asset Configuration" to bring up the "Asset UPnP Configuration" dialog window. Then the "Status" will read the count of the previous folder I had selected, not the current one. Uhg! So I repeat this process a few times and eventually I get things to work. Am I to assume Asset works better with a true Window OS. Is the fact that Asset is running on Crossover create delays in Assets response time? I'm not even sure there are issues with Asset. It could just be my lack of understanding exactly how it works and responds. Any help to make this a more streamline process would be much appreciated and added pluses to consumers considering an Asset purchase.

Something else I thought of. Is Asset sensitive to the directory naming? Meaning is it critical that the music files be in directory labeled "Music"?

Updates to the library are not instant, if you wait 10 minutes it should have done the scanning.

It does not matter what the folder is named.

I'm getting inconsistent results with Asset regarding updating the library. It never, even though it is set up too, detects new artist added to the library. I've let is go for days and no update is noticed by Asset. I click on "detect changes" and sometimes it works after waiting 10 minutes. But most of the time it does nothing. I then restart Crossover and try again. I wait and I get nothing. I try clicking "detect changes" again and I wait. Again I get nothing. So then I click "Refresh All" and I experience the same thing. But sometimes it does work. When it does I try and remember the sequence of actions I took hoping that's what I need to do. But they never seem to help the issue. It behaves in random ways and is very frustrating when I'm wanting to listen to a new album I've added. Also, not good when I'm trying to sell my customer on a Linn DS if I can't get his CD I just ripped to show up.

It would be extremely helpful if a progress window would pop up letting you know something is happening. But it just working would be good enough for now.

The configuration program shows the update status, when actively scanning it shows the track count it has scanned.

Your response doesn't address the main issue of Asset not registering new additions. This makes me think it's not working but maybe it's not recognizing the files and therefor doesn't reflect it in the count. Currently I have 3 albums that don't show up. These are are flac files. What would cause them not to show up?

The files finally showed up after 5 days. What has Asset hanging? Is it hanging?

Asset v4 is about to get an update (in beta) which speeds up scanning (refresh all) by a huge amount.
