    Oppo BDP-83 Playback Hiccups

Does anyone have issues with playback on the OPPO BDP-83 or SE? After playing a few songs or a few track changes navigation freezes I have to exit to home screen and reselect server or power down the OPPO. Is this an asset issue oppo or server?

I am running a paid version 3 of asset and a HP EX470 media server. I have upgraded the RAM and CPU of the media server. I use a network over AC adapter. Although I have run a hard wire ethernet cable from the server it didnt seem to make a difference.

Oppo, as no matter what the server did (if it did something wrong) it should not freeze the oppo, data is also delivered by a simple http get so there is little that can go wrong.

I get the same navigation issues.

The whole setup is very flaky in my opinion. I'm also unsure as to whether it is an asset issue or OPPO firmware issue.

Sometimes, I have to power off the OPPO, sometimes Asset needs restarting, so I reboot the server PC.

If you have a 2nd device you can check Asset (if it works on the 2nd device without restarting then the oppo is at fault, you can even try Renaissance in the beta section as the 2nd device).

I often find that if the Asset Library has been updated, I cannot play any tracks until Asset has been restarted by either a PC reboot or user logoff/logon.

mville which media server are you using? I never have had to restart the server just the oppo. I have heard many have issues with the OPPO but most report on other forums that they only have issues streaming movies. I only want audio. Once I get MP3s to stream without hiccups I will encode my CDs to flac. I never have issues while music is playing which leads me to believe its in the OPPO network transport but I still doubt the performance of the HP EX470 even though I upgraded the RAM and CPU and have even tried a hard ethernet connection. My tv works better but sounds terrible.

Asset UPnP, running on a Windows 7 64 bit PC. I too only stream audio (FLAC format).

I started using my TV to stream the music from Asset rather than the Oppo. It works much better than the OPPO but Im only streaming MP3s. The TV drops the connection but not as often as the Oppo. When it loses connection only the Asset server drops and I have to search for it again to reload Asset. Maybe its DLNA? Is DLNA a unreliable technology like bluetooth? If I load a 4GB USB with MP3s the Oppo plays them flawlessly and never hangs up no matter how often I change tracks. When streaming music with Oppo and Asset I am lucky to be able to change tracks more than 3 times and it is slow! I dont think the Oppo network interface is fast enough but who knows.

Make sure you are using Wired ethernet, not wireless.

According to Oppo Asset is no longer supported. I switched to Serviio for WHS and it works very well. No issues at all. Unfortunately I have to happy because its working but I liked Asset WHS interface much better especially since transcoding is easier and doesnt require you to add any code. Asset used to work pretty good but it did occasionaly lock up. Not sure what happened but I thought if I upgraded to the paid version of Asset my troubles would go away instead they got worse. This is a direct quote from Oppo support. We no longer recommend Asset UPnP. With the latest 3.0 build there are major compatibility issues which are introduced with their forced L24 support.

I wish Asset worked better because I paid for it and I like it better. Any updates?

The l24 quote just plain silly, it is an extra option which is disabled by default...

Any how r3.1 is in beta test in the forum

Serviio quit working, I liked the browsing better though. I also couldnt get serviio to transcode flacs because you have to write code. I decided to switch back to asset to isolate the transcoding issue and not only is asset transcoding flacs but the player doesnt lock up after i change tracks. Its pretty fast. The only thing I do not like is the browsing tree. It tends to revert back to the main network page. i may research the beta

any idea why the oppo was locking up with asset before and isnt now? Did Oppo or Asset make any changes that would cause this? Just curious.

Without Oppos code we could not be sure why it was locking up, really it should never lockup no matter what a server was doing.
