Eventually, those numbers will turn around. Spoon's work is better, although it may not always seem too quick since he keeps more "irons in the fire" than any other coder I've encountered.
His high level of support takes times too, but the results - really nice, solid code.
If he keeps this up, one day Illustrate will be purchased by someone big (like Syntrillium was by Adobe), and he'll retire to wherever he wants...

it is "the" only ripper with this amount of votes with the highest user rating.
it's not far off being a total number one in every respect of the word.

It is definately getting there, if you look at the stats for last week:
dBpowerAmp Music Converter 9.0 - 48,682
Easy CD-DA Extractor 6.2 - 3,835
It won't be long until DMC catches up :D

Funnily enough the only reason I started dMC (on a suggestion from Jackie @ Audiograbber) was to pull people in to dAP...

i guess the vast majority are focused on ripping? i saw another section at download.com called "music management". i haven't looked into it yet but perhaps that's where dap needs to evolve to?

well after having a better look at that category "music management" it would seem that's what dap really is. as opposed to a music player? must be some fine boundaries between the two?

Those boundaries will be even thinner after Spoon gets his "Master plan" underway......

and i think it won't be long before the codec compression playing field starts to settle down and once more the attention will be turned to actual music players/management systems.
and guess who will be there waiting :) dap of course!. when i fire up MMC it really is advanced even though Spoon has much more planning/features to add to it.
