    CD writer not responding

I just downloaded the program, made up a playlist, clicked burn cd, the correct drive and hardware pops up, but when I click burn, it looks like it is burning, (lazer rotating), but nothing happens. If I hit control/alt/delete/ it says "CD writer not responding".

Can someone tell me what is wrong?

    TIA

What brand of burner is it?

Have you used other burner programs successfuly?

What type of cd are you trying to burn? audio cd or mp3 cd?

What OS are you using? Service packs?

Thanks for the quick respongs Christina. I am running 98SE, I have used easy cd creator in the past with no problems, I'm trying to burn a 80 min, high speed, 12x, 700mb, cd-rw disc. I have a phillips cdd3610 cd-r/rw.

Did you follow the instructions for Win95/98 users about updates? http://www.dbpoweramp.com/Windows95-Update.htm

Yes, that was one of the first things I did. I believe it is somehow related to the rw cd's. I had one blank cd-r, i tried on it, and it wrote. I then put in the new cd-rw disc, and got the message the writer is not responding. It acts like it is recording, but recording percentage never gets off 0%, even after 10 min. elapses.

          Thx,

I think you have to first use the Erase CD button when you are using a cd-rw, so that it can format it first.

I'll try that and report back. Thanks again.

Nope, that didn't work either. It says there is nothing written on the cd. I went out and bought some more cd-r discs, recorded one, and it works perfectly, just not the cd-rw ones.

                Thx to all.

Did you tell it to burn at the correct speed for hte CD-RW discs? CD-RW discs normally max out speedwise at 24x, but those are rare. Double-check the max speed on your CD-RWs.
