Ripping using AIFF - can I select VBR rather than CBR?

Hi all - please don't pile on if this has been answered elsewhere, as I've tried looking back through and nothing matches what I'm looking for - I think!

I work on a Mac, and rip at lossless AIFF. I'm not bothered about saving space so basically want the most accurate rip possible. From what I can glean on various forums, VBR presents the best possible audio quality over CBR - but I can't see any option to select VBR with ripping using AIFF. The only options I'm seeing for ripping are Bit Depth, Sample Rate and Channels, all set to rip [as source] - I can't see any other option screens, so not sure what I'm missing.

I'm on Mac, Sonoma 14.4.1, dBpoweramp version 2024.04.01

    Thanks all.

AIFF would not have CBR or VBR for lossless it does not need them.

Morning Spoon! Thanks for coming back. So when I see CBR as the encoded Bit rate mode, I can just ignore that?

VBR (Variable Bit Rate) is only possible with compressed audio, where individual segments of audio data can take more or less physical space in a file, depending on their actual complexity.
AIFF format holds uncompressed audio, therefore it can't possibly be VBR - ratio of file size to stored duration (Bit Rate) cannot change in mid-file.

Thanks Peter - I noticed that my FLAC files are encoded with VBR, so I wasn't sure if the same thing was possible with AIFF, but if it's a compressed audio file only setting, then I don't need to worry about it. Thanks for your help.
