Audio normalize a group of MP3's

I have now spent close to an hour on the web site and nowhere do I see a step by step set of instruction for how to take a group of MP3's and normalize their audio volume so they will be about the same when played in an MP3 player on a thumb drive. I see all the different methods listed but there is never a set of instruction on how to actually do the normalizing.
Can anyone tell me how or locate the actual directions rather than just a description of what it will do? or else write up what I need to do.
    Thanks

Firstly you need to find out if your player is able to read replaygain ID Tags, if it cannot then your mp3 files have to be converted to mp3 and have the volume change applied whilst converting.
