    Strange Multiple Tag Behaviour VorbisComments with Artist , Album Artist , Soloists

    Hi Spoon,
    I just began ripping some classical Music, and I tried to understand
    the behaviour of the multiple tags: "Artist" , "Album Artist" and "Soloists"
    along with their Sort Values,
    as they heve multiple entries in Classical Music most of the time.

    I will give you an Example for my problems:

    I used the ID Tag editor of dbpoweramp and filled in the following
    values

    Artist ....................... Gidon Kremer; Martha Argerich
    ARTIST SORT ............ Kremer, Gidon; Argerich, Martha
    album artist .............. Gidon Kremer; Martha Argerich
    ALBUM ARTIST SORT .. Kremer, Gidon; Argerich, Martha
    SOLOISTS ................ Gidon Kremer; Martha Argerich
    SOLOISTSSORT ......... Kremer, Gidon; Argerich, Martha

    These entries are actually creating the following tags
    (I checked that with an file editor and with MP3tag software)

    Artist=Gidon Kremer
    Artist=Martha Argerich
    ARTIST SORT=Kremer, Gidon; Argerich, Martha
    ALBUMARTIST=Gidon Kremer
    ALBUMARTIST=Martha Argerich
    ALBUM ARTIST SORT=Kremer, Gidon; Argerich, Martha
    SOLOISTS=Gidon KremerMartha Argerich
    SOLOISTSSORT=Kremer, Gidon; Argerich, Martha

    When I search for the albums in Asset (using Asset Control)
    I get only one entry for the first artist:
    "Gidon Kremer"

    I get two entries (as should be) for Album Artist:
    "Gidon Kremer"
    "Martha Argerich"

    And surprisingly I also get 2 entries for Soloists:
    "Gidon Kremer"
    "Martha Argerich"

    Even as the sort tags look the same,
    they don't work in any case.

    As I would rather see my data along with the
    VorbisComment Standard I was wondering:

    Why are the Soloists written in 1 tag (not even with a Seperator)
    -> I really wonder how Asset recognizes that this entry is
    actually for 2 artists.

    Why is only 1 artist shown in asset

    Why doesn't any sort order seem to work ???

    (I even tried to test the behavior of Asset when
    editing the tags with Mp3tag according to the
    VorbisComment Standard with one sort field per entry
    or trying "Soloists" single entry on the "Artist" tag)

    I look forward for some answers
    and thx in advance

        The default for Asset is to put the sorted element in both the sorted and unsorted place. You can change this on the options page.

          Ok Spoon
          I had the option -sort handling put to "Sort values only"

          I changed it to the default and even tried the "ignore sort option"
          it had the following effect:

          artist:

          tested with 2 and 3 entries
          In any case there is only the first artist showing up!

          the first artist shows 2times with the default option
          and 1 times with the other options.

          Even without an artist sort tag, ( I had it deleted for test purposes )
          only the first artist shows up in any case !

          Album Artist and Soloist:

          In default option all entries show up: but only once!
          and I couldn't tell how the position was located.
          But I'm sure it wasn't sorted correctly for multiple entries
          (same as "sort value only")

          with the option "ignore sort value" everything shows up correct.

          But even then I am still concerned about the strange
          way the entry in the soloists tag is handled (see above)

          Any ideas ?

          Oliviander

          PS: I would like to use the "sort only option"

            Hi Spoon,
            I hoped you could shed some light in my

              Sorry for the delay.

              There is an option in Asset 'Contributing Artists with Main Artists' when it is unchecked you cannot see the contributing artists by artist name.

              Sort values are not going to work where you have multiple artists, only the first artist is going to sort correctly.

                Thx Spoon, for your infos ! :blush:

                That leaves only the question of the
                strange behaviour of the

                Soloists Tag

                As there is obviously no way to use a custom multiple tag
                with asset and VorbisComments.
                (boy, I am really missing that feature!) :cry:
                I plan to misuse the soloists tag for my purposes.
                (as it is somewhat redundant with the artists tag)
                But therefore Im concerned how the tag behaves.

                As aforementioned a double entry as

                SOLOISTS ................ Gidon Kremer; Martha Argerich

                results in one tag entry viewing as

                SOLOISTS=Gidon KremerMartha Argerich

                (loading the file in an editor or Mp3tag progeram)

                But along to the conventions it should be 2 entries

                SOLOISTS=Gidon Kremer
                SOLOISTS=Martha Argerich

                or am i missing something.

                Thx in advance for an info

                    It is because it is a non-standard FLAC tag, I have made a note and the next release of R14.1 (music converter) will separate correctly.
