Embedding album art programmatically

Is it possible to embed a jpeg as album art using the scripting api?
If yes, how is it done?
If no, is it possible to embed album art using the IDTag update utility via command line?

I see this is a response from 2002. Is there possibility in the actual new versions? we are in 2017 now :-)
