    Voice encoding?

I have been encoding a couple audio books to MP3 to listen to in my CD player (without haivng to switch CDs ten times). I am encoding at 48kbps, 44khz, mono. The quality is fine.

2 questions. One, what are people's opinions on Windows Media v9 Voice? The max that codec allows is 20kbps, 22khz.

Two, will going from 44khz to 22khz (and thus 48kbps to 24 kbps) noticably decrease quality?

one more thing. I've noticed that women's voices show more artifacts from compression than men's. Reason?

You might try variable bitrate for voice, it is very suited.
