Question about the next ALAC encoder's handling of mono sources

I've noticed that while dbPowerAmp works comparably with iTunes ALAC on most stereo sound files, it produces results of about double the bitrate on mono sources when compared to FLAC or iTunes ALAC encodings. When the new R12 M4A encoder is released, will its handling of these sources (eg. vintage music / CD audio books) be fixed? Many thanks,
