Reference: created for Audio Professionals and Enthusiasts, who demand more: more technical, more features, more pro-codecs.
The differences between Versions are shown:
----
Why does my Power Pack not entitle me to Reference?
Firstly the two products are aimed at different market segments, Reference would not suit the majority of Power Pack purchasers, increased complexity would work against it.
Secondly, a fixed $14 (now $24 as includes AMG and PerfectMeta) for life license limits what can be included with dBpoweramp (imagine Vista would not have been released if Windows 3.1 included a free update for life license), the extra cost of Reference, and traditional fee for upgrades, allows room for manoeuvre, which in-turn will give better updates for Power Pack users.
Release 12 does not take any Power Pack features away (some minor ones are no longer applicable), but upgrades R11.5 adding a new Secure Ripper, Unicode, etc, etc.
