    Re: PerfectTUNES discussion

I have some CD's ie Bryan Ferry Ultimate Collection that rips as all tracks accurate but always Perfecttunes says tracks 4,6,7, 9-12, 14 are in error.
Same result on 3 different PC's (all different manufacturer drives).
Tried ripping at the slowest speed, with interpolation on and off ( off standard ). Same result.
I have several CD's that Perfecttunes reports some tracks in error but rip says accurate...
While I can understand getting the error status for a CD track that does not have an accurate from ripping I not sure why error is reported with all tracks accurate?
ie here is the log for the rip of the Bryan Ferry CD :

    15 Tracks Ripped Accurately

I understand the copy protection issue and can deal with that.
Can anyone tell me the meaning of "track unverifiable" as far as Perfecrtunes uses it?

Elic. Thanks I will look into that.
Gary, I was not meaning to buy a CD(s) with a problem but to buy another new CD to replace the one(s) that have errors reported with them.
About 60% the albums with errors reported with perfect tunes are listed as eg "track 6 unverifiable" . I just wanted to know what it actually meant.
The other 40% have eg "track 3 error".
    Sorry if I confused you.
    Thanks

If the tracks are secure, you have a few options to verify the rip:

1: Try ripping in a second drive, if you get the same CRC, then its a good rip for that disc
2: Try verifying with CueTools, which has a separate database that includes many entries that AccurateRip does not

sorry, I don't recall that message. Here's an example of the log for a secure rip but something not in the AccurateRip database (I've just listed one track, but all the tracks were listed in the log with similar info).

    Re: PerfectTUNES discussion

my rips over the last 5 years have always been brand new CDs, first time ever in a drive was when I ripped it. And I find that the errors, frame rerips, etc. occur at the same rate as my old CDs which were played 100s of times and are 20+ years old. (all my CDs are in pretty good shape....that is, I never had them sitting around loose in my car). And I'm speaking of a pool of about 5,000 ripped CDs. Bottom line: brand new CDs can have defects, etc. from the manufacturing process.

(and I may be misinterpreting your comments, so I apologize if I am, but just in case: testing a file with audiotester, having a file listed as secure or even secure(i), etc. is NOT equivalent to the AccurateRip match. I have plenty of CDs that are securely ripped, can be decoded properly, etc. but do NOT have an AR match. They are either brand new CDs, older, but obscure CDs, or even some nonobscure CDs that simply must have a different pressing or something.

Looks like you are possibly right. According to

it says " This album has been released with the Copy Control protection system in some regions."
So assuming my copy is it could quite well explain why so many tracks are at issue.
I do have two other Cat Empire CD's which ripped with no problems and test with Perfecttunes ok.
Supposedly the copy of Two Shoes ( 2005 Virgin ) I have is supposed to be copy protected as well but ripped accurately as did their album So Many Nights.

The green CRC means that it got the same as your previous rip (as long as it is so recent that it is still in the dBpoweramp cache). That only means that your burnt copy is a good copy of whatever you ripped. And that your burnt copy was well ripped.

It could be a manufactoring issue on the CD: to many 0's or 1's which are, physically, so close to 0.5 that different drives read different. Indeed, are you sure it is not a defective-by-design, i.e. a copy protected? Those are intentionally erroneous.

I re-ripped The Cat Empire CD The Cat Empire on another PC as this was the worst of the albums reported (with HDCD removed this time ).
Still reports as 1 track accurate ( track 12 ). All other tracks list as "i secure".
This CD has never been in a CD player and was ripped like a lot of my CD's straight out of new packaging.
I thought I'd try copying the CD onto a CDR ( Taiyo Yuden) burning it at x1.
When I ripped ( using DBP) using the burnt copy it it now lists tracks 1-11 and 13 are "x AR with green tick secure" instead of "x AR i secure" . Track 12 still lists as accurate.
So I'm thinking CD quality or similar even though its almost brand new and only been in a CD mechanism 3 or 4 times...??
Thought that I'd get a better result with Perfecttunes re test this time....
Unfortunately the same result when tested with Perfecttunes.. 1 track (track 12) accurate the rest have errors (tracks 1-11 and 13 )

Looking further into it as I should of done before posting.
For the CD's reporting a track error or two most were associated with an "secure' rip status or "secure with warning" instead of "accurate" in the log of the rip.
There were a few albums that had a status of 'accurate" for all tracks but still perfecttunes reported 1 or two tracks as in error.
Maybe I am now thinking audio tester is not as good as I thought......? Still it has given me a frame of reference...its good for truncation etc issues..
Most of the albums with issues reported were called out for some tracks being "track unverifiable".
Can I take it that this simply means that there is nothing in the accuraterip DB to compare it with?
The only HDCD albums I have are Neil Young, Dire Straits and Joni Mitchell and possibly one or two other. The majority are normal CD's.
I do have the log text's for all files for the ripping of the albums if any are of interest.
When I get some time I will re rip the albums concerned and see how they turn out.
Maybe I should of only used HDCD for those albums I knew were HDCD....trouble is there are some that do not say they are HDCD but are in fact HDCD.
I will also read the best practice item ...hopefully I do not discover anything that will prompt me to re rip everything ......
    Thanks again.
