Audio file conversion freezes computer

Anyone have this problem, When I convert a batch of files into .rm format (from .wav) it will freeze the computer in a big way. Locks eveything right up and requires a hard re-boot to get back. When the system comes back up there are 0 kb size files, like the last file before crash didn't get converted.

Any help will be very appreciated, thanks
