Crop feature assistance

I've used now the crop effect for the first time. But while I had no idea how to figure out the resolution and position to configure for the crop, I had to do this with try and fail.
So it was a bit annoying, having to convert the video and adapt the values 10-15 times until the crop was as expected.
Have anyone an idea how to figure out this data in a straightforward way?

If you were to play the video in VLC, and then take a screenshot of the video (from one of the menus), then load the file into Paint, that should show where the crop should be.
