PerfectTUNES AccurateRip does not proccess WMA lossless files correctly

I really like dbpoweramp's ripping capabilities and PerfectTunes AccurateRip that checks of lossless disk files.

I have several hundred CDs in Windows Media lossless format that were ripped sometime before 2010, possibly as early as 2005.

When I ran PerfectTunes AccurateRip on WMA files of an Alicia Keys album, I got a message "cannot check: not in AccurateRip".

Here is the information:

Thinking it was a metadata issue, I used dbpoweramp Music Converter feature to turn WMA into Wave files. I also did this with a FLAC rip of the same CD that I had created with dbpoweramp CD Ripper.

The WAV file produced from the FLAC which was produced from the CD by CD Ripper passed the PerfectTunes AccurateRip test, but the WAV file produced from the WMA file did not.

Does anyone know why this is failing? I could understand if the WMA files failed the accurateRip comparison, but don't understand why the lookup into the database is failing. Thanks - Al Lee

Here is the result of the AccurateRip tests on the same Alicia Keys Album. The first is the WAVE file from my Windows Media Player ripped WMA file. The second is the WAVE produced by dbpoweramp.

I note the "AccurateRip DiskIDs: are only slightly different. Could this be an offset issue?

The song WAVE files produced by dbpoweramp from the CD are each 99 bytes longer than the same ones produced from the WMA file, except for the last one on the album, which is 102 bytes longer.

Listening to the files, I cannot hear any difference. I don't have a bit differencing program to compare the files.

The issue is, your original ripper did not rip the files to the correct length, if you were to re-rip that cd and compare the sample count reported in each, the wma files would not have the correct length.

AccurateRip uses sample count to determine match IDs.

Curses! For want of about 100 bytes per song that were cut off by Windows Media Player when ripping, the equivalent of 1.1 milliseconds, I am going to have to re-rip all my CDs to make sure they are accurate copies :-(

In my defense for using a proprietary format, I was probably working at Microsoft when I ripped these CDs. I worked there until 2005, and had not yet heard of FLAC and Xiph.org :-)
