Perfect Tunes Album Art freezing my PC

I'm running Perfect Tunes Album Art on my Windows 10 PC (4 core Intel i5 CPU with 64Gb of memory)

Running it against a folder with about 200 songs - about 12 albums.

Freezes every time after reading 5 tracks, and sometimes locks my PC up so bad that I need to reboot.

Sometimes it does finish, but there isn't a "Fix" button to add art to every CD - The Fix buttons are CD-specific, and that would take me forever to use on my ultimate 2400+ CD collection.

Any hints, or are there any logs I should be looking at?

What is locking up? the mouse stops moving?

Where are the audio tracks located? locally or on a network?

What security software do you have?

The entire PC locks up. Mouse works, but I can't even launch task manager. The audio tracks are located on a local drive. I'm using Webroot, which has a very small footprint (I'm in Information Security, so I picked what I thought had the least impact to the OS).


More analysis - it quickly gets to 5 tracks and pauses for about 5 minutes. During this time, the PC is frozen, but it does eventually awaken. I checked performance with Task Manager, and ethernet use spikes and stays high during the "freeze". I have 75/75 internet service and it's very high quality (I actually get 85/85, and bandwidth has never been a problem)

When it does eventually complete, there's no option to "Fix Albums" like there was earlier.

I did a complete uninstall and reinstall - same behavior.

The fix albums item is only available on the low resolution or no album art listings.

It sounds like your system has something installed which is causing these issues, normal Windows does not work like this, there is no way that Album Art program could stop task manager from appearing (no matter what Album Art is doing). I would start with Webroot first and uninstall it.

I am experiencing very similar issues. The program freezes and locks many resources. It takes many attempts to get Task Manager to close the program. Even looking for album art for one album can take as much as 5 minutes. Not sure the issue.

Also Windows 10 PC with 32 GB memory, 3.6 GHz Xeon hexacore processor

The files are held remotely on a NAS?

Spoon - the files are on my PC's "C" drive. It's a 3TB drive.

Did you try removing the security software?

Also update the chipset drivers, particularly the SATA controller drivers.

Album Art and De-Dup both totally freeze my PC too, but I think it is an interaction between PerfectTunes and some other software/drivers I have installed. I have reset my Windows 10 PC and have slowly started adding software and re-testing PerfectTunes. Strangely, PerfectTunes worked OK until I installed Linn Konfig, Kinsky, Kazoo and Songcast, but since then I get the freezing problem. An analysis of the Windows 10 memory dump file reports FingerPrintGenerator.exe as the culprit, with an ATTEMPTED_WRITE_TO_READONLY_MEMORY BSOD. I will restore to the pre Linn restore point and see if I can reproduce the freeze.
