What actually happens during the fix process?

Is the artwork that is already in the folder simply updated, or is there more to it?

Could you just copy one of the new artworks found into the folder?

The only reason I ask is that it does seem to take quite a lot of time, and I'm finding whole copies of albums in the recycle bin of my NAS after the fix, where the album does still remain in the original location.

If you change the option to embed to off then only a folder.jpg will be written.

What is the embed option, just out of interest, and would the album art have been embedded in the original rip?

yes, the artwork would be embedded in the tag of the digital file (the one you previously ripped).
