What is the average indexing rate?

The indexing is slow. A scan of art in a 1500 item directory on a separate USB drive estimates one day and a few hours. My inventory is MP3s on an XP OS. I'm not frustrated yet but do wonder why a software which saves me effort takes so much time?

From an internal SSD drive, I can index 4000 tracks in 20 minutes. The USB drive must be the slow part.

My 2004 vintage Dell XP system just can't pump it out anymore. My son's PC did the folder in 20 minutes.
