    Ok, I use Sygate Personal Firewall and it's not installed as a service, at least that's not how I installed it, it's just in the startup group. If I exit from it, it's really gone, no service to stop. I dont' remember an option to make it into a service. The only service I have ever installed myself is Apache.

      In the services list, at least on my XP machine, its there. Now, when you exit the firewall the service stops.
