    mp2 -> wma speed

    Hi due to the premature death of my Rio Karma I now have to encode my mp2 files (from DAB) to wma V9 instead of ogg, unfortunately it's really, really slow. The source files are mostly 128kb I'm encoding to wma stereo 96kb.

    I ran a test conversion which executed at 38 x real time but my actual conversion to wma is around 3.8 times, is there anything I can do to speed things up?

    I run Win 2k SP4 on a P4 1.7 864mb ram

    Are you using any DSP effects? This slows down conversions.

    Are you using priority of conversion above normal? Set it to normal or below normal, it will in fact be faster.

      Hi

      No DSP effects, where do you change processing priority, in Task Manager?

        No, when the conversion window is running, there is a combo box selection for the Priority of the process. I believe this is only available to PowerPack users though right?

          I haven't got power pack, is it much faster or not?

            Not in this instance, only a faster CPU might help (although I thought WMA was the fastest of the lossy encoders).

                try decoding the mp2 to wav files... then encode the wave files to wma.. see how it does for speed

                that should narrow down what the problem could be..
