    Can't convert anything!

Hi - I'm in a bit of a bind here. I am trying to simply convert CD audio to Mp3 format and I'm getting this message: "Unable to create compression CODEC 'Wave', please check software installation." Plus the application itself looks blank almost.... there are no options what so ever. All that is displayed is the tags for Artist Information but that's it. It's been a while since I've used it so maybe that's what it's supposed to look like. It just kind of looks like there's a lot of stuff "missing" I've used this program a few times before without any problem, though I was not the person to install it. It was my brother-in-law and he's now in Iraq. The only thing I can think of is that when my g/f tried to "clean" the computer of viruses, spy ware, (etc) that some essential piece of software was deleted. If this did indeed happen, how do I go about re-installing the software. Or if that is not necessary, what else should I do? It's important I'm able to do this cus' I'm trying to put my bands music onto the internet and we've been advertising this new material for December 7th.... clocks tickin'. Any word?

Go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall it from there. If that doesn't work, follow the instructions here: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=6828

      Re: Can't convert anything!

Is this material on a CD or material from your hard drive?
It sounds like your band made a cd and you want to rip it to mp3 format. You are probably using the Audio CD Input. I'm assuming its a home-made cd.
Do your tracks show up if you put the the cd in your drive and open Audio CD Input?
If so, they probably show up as Track 1, Track 2, etc. dBpowerAMP Music Converter relies on the Freedb database to provide track information. If your cd is strictly home made and has zero distribution, then you will almost certainly need to enter the album and track information yourself. But you can always try getting onto the internet and opening the cd in Audio CD Input and just see if your CD track information shows up.

If you don't see any tracks, you have the wrong drive selected. Either put the cd in your other drive or click on the Options button in Audio CD Input and find the line that reads CD Drive. Click on this and it will turn into a menu to allow you to switch your drive. If you already have the correct drive selected, then there are some other things we can look at.

If you are not using Audio CD Input, you probably should (unless these are simply files on your hard drive, in which case they should be wave format, not cd format).

Please do feel free to check the program's Help files. These should be found at Start>All Programs>dBpowerAMP Music Converter>Help and then dMC Audio CD Input Help (dBpowerAMP Music Converter Help may also prove helpful).

Remember, you should be logged in with administrative privileges.

If you are need of more help, please let us know what version of dBpowerAMP Music Converter you are using (you can get this from dMC Configuration, Start>All Programs>dBpowerAMP Music Converter>Configuration>dBpowerAMP Music Converter Configuration), the nature of the cd or files you are trying to convert, and the conversion settings you are trying to use for your mp3 files (bits, bitrate, frequency, channels).

      Good luck and best wishes,
      Bill

sound to me like she randomly deleted files - in which case you might consider reinstalling everything, including windows.

reinstalling dbpoweramp should get it working again, just hope your cdrom drivers are still intact.. but if the above is true, then you would be better off reinstalling your OS too..

Yeah, I dunno... It's a blank CD. I entered the "Artist Info" stuff. It just won't do anything beyond that. I dunno how i'm supposed to go about reinstalling it. I don't have any of the discs or whatever was used to install it. This used to be my brother in laws computer and he's pretty unreachable at the moment. Sucks

              Re: Can't convert anything!

Did you find and follow the instructions from the Help file? Do the windows you encounter when trying to use dBpower AMP Music Converter differ from the windows in the Help file? If so, how?
Have you checked dMC Configuration? What version of dMC do you have? Does it show the Power Pack as being registered?
From Audio CD Input, with your tracks showing and labelled, do you see a button labelled Rip in the upper left hand corner?
Can you right click on that button to select mp3 as your output format, set your mp3 settings, and set/confirm the destination for your mp3 files?
If you can then proceed with the ripping of the tracks from CD to mp3 what happens? If you get an error message, please be specific.
If ripping tracks to mp3 will not work, can you rip these tracks to wave? Does that work?
If you can rip these tracks to wave, can you then rip them to mp3?
If these tracks can be ripped to wave but not to mp3, the most likely problem is your settings for mp3 (bits, bitrate, frequency, channels). What settings are you trying to use?
A different source for this problem would be if you have version 11 or later of dMC which is unregistered and for which the trial period for the Power Pack has expired. In that case, you cannot convert to mp3 unless you register dMC. To do this, click on the Products tab at the top of the page. This should not be a problem for versions of dMC prior to version 11.

If you cannot rip to wave, cannot access the Help files, or if the windows you see are different from the windows in the Help file, then reinstallation may be necessary. Installation of this program is generally by download. I would find and check the folder My Downloads to see if the dMC installation file is still there. Otherwise, you can follow the link from the Products tab at the top of the page.

If you need further help, please be SPECIFIC about what you did and about what happened. I'm afraid that "It just won't do anything beyond that" does not provide any clues as to what may be going wrong. Knowing what you have tried, what does seem to be missing from any windows, and the other kinds of details we have discussed really is what we need to try to understand the problem you are having.

              Good luck and best wishes,
              Bill

that could be why you CAN'T rip it!
                - i'll asume that was a typo.

just redownload the dmc installer, and reinstall it
