Converting VBR to CBR crashes program every time

Hi,

I am converting a whole lot of music from Varaible Bit Rate to Constant Bit rate as this is the only format my new Sony Ericsson w800i mobile phone will play.
I am converting at 128kb/s but everytime I convert the prgram crashes. I also have media monkey and it fails as well but simply displays an error message saying "conversion failed".
what is going on and what can I do??

Does this happen for every file or one particular file in the batch?

What file formats are you dealing with here anyway?

Bits, frequency and channels for input and for output?

Is the input folder the same as the output folder? if so, try to send output to a different folder.

Are you logged in as admin or at least power user?
Iis everyhting installed to the same folder: c:\Program Files\Illustrate\dBpowerAMP ?

What version of dMC do you have? registered or not?

-> it seems to happen to a particular files in the batch. the first being "U2 the Sweetest Thing" ... I wish I could attach this song so someone else could test it. It reports a fault Appname = MusicConverter.exe, ModName = ntdll.dll, ModVer = 5.1.2600.2180

-> converting from mp3 to mp3. initital file is vbr and converting to 128kb/s constant

-> Joint Stero Channels and Freq = 44,100

Is the input folder the same as the output folder? if so, try to send output to a different folder.
-> Output folder is differne tot input.

-> I am logged in as admin

What are the settings for your initial vbr files?
Do your file tags contain album art or unicode characters or long Comments entries?
Is your version of dMC (dBpowerAMP Music Converter) still in its trial period?
If not, are you using a version earlier than version 11?
Do you have the Power Pack installed?

If 2 different programs cannot read the mp3 files, perhaps there are problems with the mp3 files?

Good point as both programs cant convert to CBR maybe the problem is with my origional Mp3 file - but I can play it okay so that does nor make sense to me!!

no idea - it is music I have shared and downloaded via filesharing software (woops did I say that)

its still in the trail period but about to expire soon
If not, are you using a version earlier than version 11?
I have the latest version as of 3 weeks ago.
Do you have the Power Pack installed?
It seems to be installed but I use none of the features when converting (except skip finished message)

Do these vbr files play OK?
Try a test conversions of some of these files. This is done same as a regular conversion except that instead of choosing mp3 as your output format, select "Test Conversion (No Write)". Either the file will successfully test convert very rapidly or it will fail. You do not get any kind of output file. This tests the ability of Music Converter to read the source file(s). If they test convert OK you might try converting these files to wave and then (if that was successful) convert them back to mp3 cbr.

The vbr files play okay and I managed to do the test that you did okay.
But when I wrote to Wave format my O/S (Windows XP) rebooted (blue screen with IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL) STOP 0x0000A. error page -> http://oca.microsoft.com/en/response...f986838&SID=10 came up after the reboot.
hmmm well it was rebooting also when I installed dbamp and was trying to convert so I cleaned my registery with a utility and it fixed that. This is odd as I have just rebuilt my O/S from scratch!!

If the 30-day trial period is over, then you cannot convert anything to mp3 until you purchase and install the registered version.

I am still within my 30 days for another week.
I dont understand my O/S is crashing with the blue screen of death in Windows XP Pro, when converting to simple WAV format.

Can you convert ANY files with dBpowerAMP Music Converter (dMC)? (Either to wave or to mp3).
Can you rip any tracks from CD with dMC? (Either to wave or mp3).
If your wave settings were PCM 16 bit, 44.1 kHz, 2 channel, can you try changing bits to "as source" and likewise with frequency and channels? Does that make any difference?

Hi Bill. Thanks for your reply.
The only software that works 100% is ripping tracks from a CD.
Now it seems to have got more unpredicatble -> I get the blue screen of death (PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA) error with one of my devices made my computer crash. I rember having this problem before (with other software) but I completly rebauilt my O/S!! and I can not work out which device is making my PC reboot!! G888. Microsoft WIndows XP is very intuitive when it crashes -> NOTTTT!
Also If I change everything to "as source" it still doesnt work and either the program crashes or my PC reboots!

Overheating cpu, try a different program that stresses the cpu, there is one called prime95
