Ogg Vorbis aoTuV B4 Codec Crashing

When I try and use the Ogg Vorbis aoTuV B4 codec it starts the conversion, but right at the end it will crash and I end up with a .ogg file that is 0kb.
This is the message that comes up after it has crashed:

I have used both the normal Ogg and the B4 optimized codecs and they work fine, it is just the normal aoTuV B4 codec that crashes. It would be great if one of you guys could help me out here. Thanks.

Re: Ogg Vorbis aoTuV B4 Codec Crashing

Did you remember to locate the encoder in the dMC window and confirm the location before you ussed it the first time?

Do you have the Ogg vorbis 1.1.1 codec installed (just moved from Beta to Codec Central within the past day or two)? That could be your problem. Do uninstall the Ogg vorbis 1.1.0 codec before installing the Ogg vorbis 1.1.1 codec. (Don't know if it's necessary but that's what I did and it worked for me). Are you using the AoTuV B3 codec or the AoTuV B4 codec? Are you using the SSE2 version or the version without SSE?

Also, what are your system specifications? The AoTuV codecs (with and without SSE) may not work on older, slower systems (I believe you can find some guidelines at Codec Central where you download the Ogg vorbis codecs).

If those considerations do not apply, what are the characteristics of the files you are trying to convert (format, frequency, channel, bit-rate, bit setting) and what settings are you using for your ogg vorbis files (frequency, channels, quality setting)?

These answers may help to pinpoint what is going wrong. I am partial to the first item since it is the most obvious scenario in which the SSE2 optimized version would work but the B4 without would not.

    Best wishes
    Bill

Re: Ogg Vorbis aoTuV B4 Codec Crashing

Right ok then. I did locate to encoder when I first went to encode a file.

I have the 1.1.1 codec, I downloaded it today along with the other Ogg codecs. I am trying to use the AoTuV B4 codec, but it crashes at the end. The original 1.1.1 codec works fine, as does the AoTuV SSE codec. Although the SSE one does show up in my dbpowerAMP as "Ogg Vorbis AoTuV B3 SSE2" instead of B4. I did download it today, and it said B4...

I am pretty sure my system can handle the codecs, I have a Pentium 4 3GHz, 1GB of RAM running Windows XP Sp2.

And it crashes with whatever file I try to convert to the Ogg Vorbis AoTuV B4, no matter what they are. I am trying to convert them to Quality:1, Frequency:44,100 Hz and Channels:Same as Source.

Re: Ogg Vorbis aoTuV B4 Codec Crashing

The B4 codec shows up at B4 in my dMC Configuration. Are you sure you don't have b3 installed?

Actually, xoas, my friend got the SSE2 optimized version to work on his Athlon XP (no SSE2 support) just fine.

Also, what version of dMC are you using (found in dMC Configuration)? Can you give us a clipboard dump of your Configuration? (Start --> Programs --> dBpowerAMP Music Converter --> Configuration --> dMC Configuration). Note the clipboard dump is only available in the latest version, dMC r11.5

Re: Ogg Vorbis aoTuV B4 Codec Crashing

Have you tried using: Frequency: [As Source]?
Have you tried different quality settings?
Do the file tags of your original files include album art or unicode characters (in which case deselecting the option to preserve tags should help).
Are you running any DSP effects?

I think your system should easily be able to handle the codec.
The SSE2 codec if it is the B3 version makes a bit more sense.

Configuration clipboard dump, as LtData suggested, would certainly be helpful to confirm version numbers. If you have an earlier version of dMC than 11.5 release, do visit dMC configuration and confirm the version numbers for your various ogg vorbis codecs.

          Best wishes,
          Bill

I am pretty sure I downloaded the B4 version of the Ogg Vorbis AoTuV SSE2. I downloaded today from the Codec Central and it said on there is was the B4 version. For Some Reason though it is showing up as B3.

I think I will totally uninstall dbpowerAMP and the codecs and re-install it from fresh, see if that helps at all.

Aha, I think I see the problem. You have the be aoTuV b3 encoder installed, which needs the Ogg Vorbis 1.0.1 codec to do tags. THAT explains the crashing at the end. Download the beta aoTuV encoder from the Beta forum where you downloaded the Ogg 1.1.1 codec and see if that works. And uninstall your current b3 codec.

Well I downloaded the codecs from the beta section of the forum, instead of from the Codec Central. These seem to be fine, the SSE2 now shows up as B4 instead of B3. And I finally got the Ogg Vorbis aoTuV b4 without SSE to work, might of been because I changed the frequency to same as source. Well anyway now it works! YAY! thanks guys for all your help. I think that maybe the links on the Codec Central page may need to be updated or something because it says B4 SSE, but i got the B3.

                  Well thanks again!

Re: Ogg Vorbis aoTuV B4 Codec Crashing

Good work and tI would like to point out that I have both sets of AoTuV codecs (b3 and b4 with and without SSE2) installed along with the ogg vorbis 1.1.1 codec and they all work fine.
So I don't think the problem was with the mislabelled codec from codec central (which was not the codec that was crashing anyway).

Still, it was very good of LtData to have pinpointed that particular problem as well.
                      Good going guys!

Ahh, but oggenc2.exe IS the aoTuV codec that was crashing. Since it was crashing at the end, it seems to point to something done after the file is done encoding, which was probably either a DSP effect (never answered) or a tag problem (the apparently problem). Apparently, encoding to Vorbis 1.0.1 and then attempting to tag the file with Vorbis 1.1.1 doesn't work very well, though it seems that it should (Vorbis 1.1.1 should be backwards compatible with 1.0.1).

Re: Ogg Vorbis aoTuV B4 Codec Crashing

The oggenc2.exe is found in both the aoTuV b4 and aoTuV b4 SSE2 Compression folders in dBpowerAMP. We KNOW the b4 codec was crashing and we KNOW that Codec Central had mislabelled the b3 SSE2 codec (which did nonetheless work for the user and whose .exe file is oggenc-sse2-archer on my system-we don't know for sure about what Spazmo's set-up was). We (or I, at any rate) don't know for sure that there is any link between these 2 problems.

We have run into occasional situations with other codecs which have cleared up with setting frequency and/or channels to "as source". Why this works when it does is a bit of a mystery to me (although if changing frequency was a factor it would make more sense).

You both may very well be correct in stating that the error is coming toward the end of the conversion because it seems to convert and then crash. But I am not sure whether you couldn't have the same experience if the program hangs somewhere right after starting the conversion and then failing.

In any case, I am glad that Spazmo is back in business and I applaud his having thought to go back and get the correct codec from the Beta forum.

                          Best wishes,
                          Bill

I'm having the same problem with the crashing when using both sse and non-sse b4. I have version 1.1.1 installed and the location of the encoder is correct (default). I do have an older system, which is probably the problem according to Spoon's post in the beta forum. That post suggests using aotuv b3 on an older system if aotuv b4 doesn't work, but where do I download aotuv b3? Or is that the same as Standard now? I'm kinda new to the whole codec thing. Please help!
