Can't Transfer Files

I just bought some music on line at walmart.com. I am running windows XP home edition. Before the windows media player would play the music, it made me download a media rights manager. Now I can't transfer any files ripped with dbpowerAMP to anything (mp3 player, data cd, etc.) I uninstalled the media rights manager, but still am unable to transfer these files. Do I have to reinstall the OS to get rid of this windows annoyance or is something else wrong? :(

What is your mp3 player, and how are you transfering the files?

I am using a Lexar LDP-200. I have attempted to drag and drop files to it using the windows explorer. Error message is "The directory or file cannot be created." Same thing happens if I use the Windows Media Player (v9). I have tried to do the same with my Toshiba pocket PC and had the same problem. Unless the music is ripped with the media player, (since I installed the media rights manager) I can't transfer music files. I even re-formatted the memory card on the MP3 player and still have the same problem.

You've tried this with dMC-created WMA files?
It sounds like the "media rights manager" is locking out other programs from accessing the player. Sounds like typical Microsoft.

I've tried this with all ripped files. For some reason, even after un-installing the media rights manager, I can't transfer files ripped with dBpowerAMP or anything else, other than the Windows Media Player. I am hoping someone has had a similar problem and knows how to fix this. I am ready to remove and reinstall the OS.

Hmm.. interesting. Have you tried gooling "media rights manager" and "transfer trouble" and see what comes up?

I have not yet tried google. I did try searching Microsoft's knowlege base. It did not help. I will try to google it. Hopefully someone knows a solution to this one other than restoring the OS.

Have you tried plugging in your player to your computer, opening WMP, finding the downward pointing arrow on the upper right hand side of the WMP window, slecting Tools, selecting Options, selecting Devices and (assuming your player shows up on the list, clicking on your device and selecting Properties to see if their is some option in the properties that makes WMP the default program for transferring all files to your player?

Does your player have software installed on your computer which might control file transfers?

Do you have the internet address for the DRM that you installed? Can you re-install the DRM up to the point where you get to the Terms of Service agreement making note of any identifiers for the DRM itself and what version if any and what the terms of service agreement outlines that may help identify the types of DRM applied, the extent to which it has been applied and so forth? (Edit: Then I would advise rejecting the terms of service and exiting).

Have you tried going to WMP options and de-selecting WMP as the default player for WMA files and/or have you tried going to Control Panel>Folder Options>File Associations to associate your WMA files with dBpowerAMP Music Converter rather than with WMP?

Forgive me if you have already looked at all of these things. I am just trying to help problem-solve an issue for which there is not a ready solution.

I thought about re-installing the DRM but have not yet tried it. All very good suggestions. I will try them over the holiday weekend and let you guys know what happened. Thanks for the advice and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

I have edited my previous post. I was not actually advice a complete re-installatiion of the DRM program, just wanting to go so far as finding out what could be learned from the installation process to learn about the program's Terms of Service agreement and what it had to tell you about the program.

Also, if you have not done so you might open up the Synch settings from the WMP menu bar to see if you can de-synchronize your player from WMP at that location.
