Do I need to save the the music selection from the CD to pc first before converting it to mp3? I

You can safely rip directly from cd to mp3 (or other format of your choice, as long as you have a dMC encoder codec installed for that format) although some users prefer to rip to .wave and then to the format of your choice.
Please note that to rip or convert a file to .mp3 requires a valid version of the Power Pack (either an active trial version that has not yet expired or a registered version).
