WMA Lossless 48 kHz 16 bit?

Hi all,

I have installed the latest dMC 11.5 (registered) version and I am doing some conversions from DVD audio (48 kHz, 24 bit) to WMA Lossless. I am hoping to maintain the 48 kHz of the original audio but convert the 24 bit to 16 bit. The main reason for this is Sound Forge Audio Studio won't read 24 bit sound files (Sound Forge will, but not the "lite" Audio Studio version).

When I look at the pulldown list of options for WMA Lossless I see:

VBR Quality 100, 44 kHz, 2 channel 16 bit VBR
VBR Quality 100, 44 kHz, 2 channel 24 bit VBR
...
VBR Quality 100, 48 kHz, 2 channel 24 bit VBR
...


What I don't see is an option that would allow me to convert to 48 kHz, 2 channel 16 bit VBR. Is there a reason why this option is not available with WMA Lossless?

The WMA codec for dMC only exposes the options available in WMP. Apparently, 48KHz, stereo 16-bit isn't available for WMP, therefore its not available to dMC either. You could just use a 48KHz, 16-bit WAv, but you'll lose all of your tagging information.

I was hoping to use WMA to get a smaller file size than WAV while still keeping the data in "lossless" format, as I'm using these files as a "lossless library" that can then be converted to whatever lossy format I decide based on the player I'm going to use.

However, by converting to 44.1 kHz from a source file that is 48kHz, I guess it's no longer a "lossless" copy.

I guess I could just leave the DVD audio files in WAV format.

Any idea if there are any plans to add support for 48/16 files in WMA lossless?

It is microsoft that controls what appears within the WMA codec.
