    question on winamp plugins

I have winamp setup to play both .ra and .rm files either via "in_tara.dll" and/or
    real alternative.

If i understand the winamp > dap instructions, then I guess i'm asking if the .ra,
.rm files will play through dap?

PS: I also have quicktime alternative installed....

    thanks,

    Re: question on winamp plugins

Having WinAmp set up to play .ra and .rm files will have no effect upon whether or not dAP can play those same files or whether dMC can convert them.
If you want to know if dAP can play these files under your current set up, check dMC Configuration for your installed decoder codecs. If you have the old Real decoder installed it will show on a line for RealAudio. If you have it set up to use the DirectShow decoder, check the line for DirectShow Decoder to see if the .ra and .rm extensions are listed there. I do not know whether the WinAmp Plug-in Input decoder codec for dMC/dAP will work with the WinAmp RealAudio Plug-in that you mention or not. If you have the plug-in properly installed in the WinAmp Plug-in Decoder for dMC, you should see .ra and .rm listed as file extensions in dMC Configuration, installed decoder codecs on the line for WinAmp Input Adapter.

Please remember that the WinAmp Input Adapter requires that you copy the plug-in to the folder for the WinAmp Input Adapter folder in dMC.

    Best wishes,
    Bill

      Re: question on winamp plugins

      xoas,

Here is what i have in the
      dbPower\dbPowerAMP\Multiplayer\Input\DirectShow\DS Ext.txt file:
// Add supported DirectShow file type extensions, type only one extension per
// line (replace .xyz below), re-run 'dMC Configuration' after adding new, for example:
      //
      // .ac3
      // .abc
      //

      .ra
      .rm

I did a search and got no results for in_ra.dll from my HD (not even in the
      real alternative or winamp folders....

The DMC Configuration does show "Real Audio Input Decoder .ra, .rm, .ram"
      under the "installed decoders" tab.

      What else is needed???
      Thanks for the help,
      savagcl

        Re: question on winamp plugins

From what you report, you have the old RealAudio INput codec installed for dMC. This requires Real Player v8. If this is the case, then you should be able to play RealAudio files in dAP.

The DirectShow codec requires that you have RealAlternative installed. If it is installed correctly it will show up in dMC Configuration with your RealAudio file extensions listed on the line for the Direct Show Decoder. Your DirectShow configuration file looks ok but that alone will not guarantee that you have it correctly installed.

The WinAmp Input Adapter for dMC may or may not work with the WinAmp RealAudio plug-in you mention ("in_tara.dll"). The dMC WinAmp Input Adapter does NOT automatically configure itself to any plug-in used by WinAmp. You have to create a copy of the .dll and install it in the folder:
        Drive: Program Files>Illustrate>dBpowerAMP>Multiplayer>Input>Wina mpin

If the plug-in is installed in dMC correctly, the RealAudio file extensions should show up in dMC Configuration on the line for the WinAmp Input Adapter. The WinAmp Input Adapter is known to not work with all WinAmp plug-ins and I don't know if it will work with the WinAmp Plug-In you mention.

I am not sure how well these various decoders will co-exist with one another (for example, it is known that there may be some conflicts, at least on some systems, between Real Player and RealAlternative). So you may need to decide which you want to go with for dMC.

        Hope this helps.

        Best wishes,
        Bill

          Re: question on winamp plugins

The Real DirectMedia Splitter doesn't use "in_ra.dll", it uses a different file with a name/extension that I forget at the moment. You have to have Real Alternative installed and make sure the Real DirectMedia Splitter is checked when you install.

Ok, I have the real-alternative installed but i dont remember if i selected the
            splitter or not.

I'll re-install and see what happens. Will let you know.

Well, I re-installed (and rebooted) but no joy.
About Config: I can see the .ra, .rm, etc for winamp input adaptor and also
for the real audio input decoder listed under the Installed Input codex (Read).

The song title shows in the player (but thats it), but no sound, no movement
of the track cursor (for lack of a better name).

                Re: question on winamp plugins

OK, let's try this. Uninstall the RealAudio Decoder, remove the in_ra.dll or whatever file from the Winamp Input Decoder folder, just leaving the DirectShow Real Decoder.
Also, add ".rm" to the Configure DirectShow file, then re-run dMC Configuration to make sure it took.

Having 3 decoders for one file type will result in it not working, most likely.

Ok, I deleted the in_ra.dll from winampfolder.
The .rm was already in the directshow config.

How do i just uninstall the RealAudio Decoder? Do i just delete the real audio
                  folder under Compression?

No. You go to Control Panel and use Add/Delete programs - find it there soemwhere among the dBpowerAMP programs - you will see somewhere ra or real or something in the name.

                        Re: question on winamp plugins

Well, I unstalled the RA codec (the right way) and re-installed it. It now
                        shows as:
Real Audio Input Decoder .ra; .rm; .ram

I also re-installed the DirectShow decoder (Release 1) and have it set to:
                        .ra; .rpm; .rm; .ram; .rmpv

Still no play, just get the name of the song showing in the player.

Example of present config (abbreviated to show only necessary parts):

                        Installed Compression Codecs (Write)
                        Real Audio: Release 3 [ .rm ]

                        Installed Input Codecs (Read)
Real Audio Input Decoder: .ra; .rm; .ram
Winamp Input Adaptor: .APE; .MAC; .APL; .CDA; .ack; .ack; .M4A; .MP4; .MPC; .MP+; .MPP; .MP3; .MP2; .MP1; .RMP; .NSV; .NSA; .MOV; .QT; .OGG; .WMA

                          Re: question on winamp plugins

Are you sure that the files is not a streaming file (one that can only be played if yu are hooked up to the internet)? Can you play these RealAudio files in either WinAmp or another player?

If so, now either uninstall the RealAudio Input Decoder (and preferably Real Player as well) OR uninstall RealAlternative and either the DirectShow Decoder (or remove the RealAudio extensions from your DirectShow configuration file and confirm the change through dMC Configuration). This assumes that dMC already shows among your Input decoders the DirectShow codec and that dMC Configuration already shows the RealAudio extensions for the RealAudio extensions. You want to try only ONE decoder at a time.

Your best bet would to try the DirectShow codec first. If the DirectShow codec with RealAlternative does not work, make sure that it shows up as being properly installed and configured in dMC Configuration. Also make sure that RealAlternative is designated as your default player for RealAudio files. If the file(s) won't play in dAP, try playing in RealAlternative. If it will not, try converting one of these files to wave. It should not convert. Assuming it does not, you should get a message. Tell us what that message is.

Alternately, try playing the file in WMP and if you get an error message tell us what the message is. There is an FAQ about the DirectShow Sample Grabber here:
http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=8207. You can pursie this but should ONLY do so if it seems to apply to your situation.

But if you want/need to keep RealPlayer as your default player for RealAudio, or if you can't get the DirectShow codec to work for these files, then try the olser Real Audio input decoder.

                          Best wishes,
                          Bill

As xoas said, you either need to remove Real Alternative and the DS Decoder settings for it, or remove the RealAudio Decoder. Having two decoders for one file type always results in problems.
