    Very slow conversion to mp3

I have just upgraded to and registered v11.5 (finally pulled my finger out after using v10 for ages).

Converting from WAV to mp3 now takes forever. I have converted about 40 files and the conversion speed is 0.4% - 0.6%. Reversing the process an mp3 to WAV gives me 20x.

    Under a test conversion I get 15-16x.

I am not running any additional DSP etc (so simple conversion only) and the only other thing I have had running has been Norton Internet Security (however speed doesn't change with it off).

    PC-wise I am running a P4 1.6Ghz with 768Mb RAM.

Can anyone help spread some light on this for me?

    Thanks - Pete

First, what settings are you using for mp3?
Are you changing the frequency or channels of the WAV file when your convert to mp3?
Are both files on the same drive, and is this an internal drive or an external drive?
Does it do this with all WAV files or just a particular few?

Are these standard (44.1 kHz, 2 channel, 16 bit) PCM wave files? What size are they?
Forgive my asking but are you talking about converting existing wave files or ripping tracks from a cd?

Your test conversion time is VERY slow. Test converting some standard wave files on my 1.3 gHz Celeron system, I got test conversion results in over 100x real time.

      Best wishes,
      Bill

        Further info::
I am solely converting existing WAV files at present. This happens with all WAV files (regardless of creation date and how originally created). They reside on the same internal drive (outputting to same folder or another folder on same drive).

Size of WAVs - vary in size from 50meg thru 220meg.

        Original WAV - PCM / 2 channel / 16 bit / 44.1kHz

MP3 settings - using LAME to 192k/320k Stereo at 44.1kHz

Priority of conversion? It works faster if set to Below Normal.

Is your hard drive very fragmented? You may want to check that.

Are your wav tracks on the same drive as dMC? Is dMC on the same drive as your Windows?

Re: Very slow conversion to mp3

Set to 'below normal' priority - conversion speed is at 0.5.

Ripping from CD to mp3 (320k) is also 0.5.

Files are from either C: (where windows & dMC live) or D:. Conversion speeds are the same regardless of location of original or destination file.

Drives are defragged regularly and have retried after a defrag to same results.

v10 was able to convert heaps faster yesterday and no other changes to software or hardware since install of v11.5.

Would you please use dMC Configuration and copy the configuration to the clipboard and paste it in here.

Tried the re-install method as listed by LtData.

Once the keys were removed from registry and re-installed - up to 5x. Massive improvement! Thanks heaps to everyone for their help!

                      Cheers,

                      Pete
