    WMA to WAV to MP3???

Have 3 files in wma format. Trying to convert to wav then to mp3.

I installed the XP 9.1 version of WMA codec but dAP Converter still says it
couldnt open the decompression cocec (it finds the codec but cant open it).

The music came from the web and plays very well in Winamp but not at all in
    the dAP player.

I'm using XP Home, Sp2 and dAP setting are @ 16bit 44.100Hz, #2 (for Stereo
    (CD) quality.

Both WMA Encode/Decode are showing in the configuration.

    Where am i messing up?

    thanks,

    Additional info -

I have tried to convert these using each of:
    dBpowerAMP-codec-wmav9.exe
    db-wmfdist-wma9.exe
    dBpowerAMP-codec-wmav91.exe

    none worked.

Do they play in Windows Media Player? Do you have WMP 10?

Did you use dMC to do a test conversion (no write) for them?

Apparently that seems to be the problem.

Yes, they will play in WMP.
No, they dont play in DAP.

Test Conversion??? Is there one in the converter? I dont see anything there.
I see the test recording level in the Aux but nothing in the Converter.

Re: WMA to WAV to MP3???

              Talk about strange!!!

I deleted the dBpower folders, all of them, including the shell and keyControl
files (last 2 via Safe Mode).

Then i un-Zipped, a backup file of all dap files\folders and now, i can play
(in the dap player), and convert the 3 files mentioned above.

Strange! Something must have changed between the two. I'll compare the
              config and see whats up.

              thanks,

Re: WMA to WAV to MP3???

                Biggest differences I see:

                dBpowerAMP Music Converter -
                Release 10 Beta 3/ Release 11.5 = Release 10 Beta 3 worked.
                dBpowerAMP CD Writer -
Release 1.1\Release 2 Dont know if any effect here.

For Write codec i had: Windows Media Audio V9.1: Release 1 [ .wma ] and
                Windows Media Audio V9: Release 2 [ .wma ]
For Read codec i had: Windows Media Audio Input Decoder: .wma; .asf; .wmv

Now I have: Windows Media Audio V9: Release 2 [ .wma ] (Write)
Windows Media Audio Input Decoder: .wma; .asf; .wmv (Read)

NOTE: I didnt have vs 9.1 until after i saw it wouldnt convert wma.

Actually there are to many to list here but i noted that the newest structure
of the config itself had changed drastically. Like adding Shell integration and
the "tabs" to the config window. While I'm running the version before the
                config structure changed.

                Thanks,
                savagcl

Test conversion is like a regular conversion except that when you are in the menu to select your output format (wma, mp3, ogg vorbis, etc) you select Test Conversion (No Write). Either the Test conversion will succeed (in which case the conversion progress window will show that the conversion is finished and how long (in multiples of real time) the test conversion worked, or it will fail in which case you will get an error message.

Does anyone know how dMC decides which of the following to use when processing a WMA file?

Winamp Input Adaptor: .APE; .MAC; .APL; .ack; .M4A; .MP4; .MPC; .MP+; .MPP; .MP3; .MP2; .MP1; .RMP; .NSV; .NSA; .OGG; .WMA

                    or

Windows Media Audio Input Decoder: .wma; .asf; .wmv

Hmm, good point, I didn't notice that. Is there a way you can tweak which formats the Winamp Input Adapter decodes, or is it all or nothing?

It is the first dll it can find, which is dependant on Windows (so you cannot know), it is best not to use the Winamp input adaptor to decode WMA.

Yes. With the WinAmp Input Decoder you have to copy the plug-ins to a folder in for the WinAmp Plug-In Input codec in dMC. So all you have to do, if you don't want to use the WinAmp plug-In for a certain format in dMC/dAP is to not copy the plug-in to the folder in dMC or to remove it from that folder. This should not affect WinAmp's ability to play these files.

                              Best wishes,
                              Bill
